'The Office' reaps most GoldDerby Award noms
Leave it to a bunch of kudos-crazed internutters at The Envelope to try to trump Hollywood awards by issuing their own! Posters here have been doing so for years — that is, long before the Los Angeles Times acquired our old GoldDerby.com and folded it into TheEnvelope.com, which launched last November. Thus these prizes are still called the GoldDerby Awards. Nominees for our TV prizes have just been announced — see below. How do you think they stack up against the Golden Globes, SAG kudos and awards bestowed by the Television Critics of America? Click on the "Comments" link below and pipe in — or CLICK HERE to join our posters in the forums where much excitement bubbles.
Voting is organized by three forum moderators: Chris Beachum ("Boomer"), Andrew Pickett ("andrew") and Robert Licuria ("Xanadu"). All forum posters will be invited to pick winners July 1-25. "Winners from 2005 included 'Arrested Development,' Lauren Graham, Jason Bateman, Jessica Walter and Peter Boyle in the comedy categories and 'Lost,' Kristen Bell, Kiefer Sutherland, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Terry O'Quinn in the drama categories," notes Beachum.

Annette Bening gave a fine performance in "Mrs. Harris" but, not by any stretch of the imagination, is her performance more "deserving" of an Emmy than Helen Mirren's riveting turn in "Elizabeth I".
LOL - I bet Annette is thanking God and the Heavens that Hilary Swank isn't nominated!

Great list of nominees buy where's the love for "The Shield?" Michael Chiklis, CCH Pounder, and Forest Whitaker are likely locks for lead actor, supporting actress and supporting actor (or guest actor?) in a drama series nominees for their brilliant work in the first half of the fifth season. Pounder was so magnificent in the second half of the fifth season dealing with complications from Lupus and waging battle (with her partner Dutch) to finally snag a stone cold sociopath that not only should she be in the running for lead drama series actress, like former co-star Glenn Close was last year, she should be this year's frontrunner in the category. Hopefully Emmy voters will right last year's wrong by awarding her this year. Pounder not eventually claiming Emmy gold for "The Shield" would be as criminal if say, Andre Braugher had never won for his powerhouse work as Detective Frank Pembleton on "Homicide," which thankfully he did.
Also, if you think that Teri Hatcher isn't going to land her second consecutive nomination for "Desperate Housewives" you're nuts! She's a lock even if she didn't have much of a storyline this season; she stands a far better chance than Eva Longoria who proved that she's adept at comedy but sucks at drama this past season which is ironic considering she broke onto the scene as a daytime drama player.
And where's Alfre Woodard? She did amazing guest star work on both "Desperate Housewives" (despite the writers' total lack of knowing how to utilize her considerable talent, especially when it comes to comedy -- the woman can be an absolute riot when given the opportunity; check out "Miss Firecracker," "Passion Fish," "Crooklyn," and "What's Cooking?" for proof) and as a dedicated therapist on the short-lived drama series "Inconcievable." She's also a frontrunner for a nomination in the supporting actress in a miniseries or made-for-television movie category for her work in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation of Pat Conroy's "The Water is Wide."
Vanessa Redgrave has to be considered for her guest appearances on daughter Joely Richardson's FX drama series "Nip/Tuck." Not to mention actors from the talented ensemble cast of "Rescue Me." It's Leary's show but he's smart enough to surround himself with actors that have considerable range like Daniel Sunjata, Dean Winters, and Charles Durning among others.

You completely forgot the love for Mandy Moore as COMEDY GUEST ACTRESS for her role as Julie Quinn in Scrubbs. For Shame! The only other one I would have included would be Katherine Heigl in Supporting Actress - Drama for the season finale of Grey's. Now I just have to tell everyone that can vote to choose JAIME PRESSLY for SUPPORTING ACTRESS - COMEDY and KRISTEN BELL for ACTRESS - DRAMA. Thanks for listening...

I agree with most of your choices for recognition. However, I was a bit shocked to see no nods go to Huff, and so few (only 2) go to The West Wing. Say what you will about the West Wing after Aaron Sorkin left, but they really climbed out of thier pit these last two seasons. Their final season was a good one, and I would have liked to see a bit more recognition. And Huff, like the show or not there has been some amazing performances given in this its all too soon final season.

Way too much love for Housewives, 24 and Six Feet Under; not enough for Curb, Big Love or Sopranos. Also, Will & Grace's supporting players....terrible scenery chewing. Was this meant to be a prediction or some actual measurement of merit?
Effort appreciated, but disagreemnts too many to count. The real Emmy nominations will probably be better than this ballot, and that's really saying something.

In my opinion, these nominations are very much up to par with the recognition deserved for the past television season. I love that the list has the 2 main DH nominees for Comedy Lead Actress that I have been predicting to get the Emmy Nod (Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria) who so deservingly deserves the acknowledgement.
