Boos drown 'The Fountain' at Venice

September 4, 2006 |  8:50 pm

After past success with "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream," director Darren Aronofsky heard boos of humiliation after debuting his "The Fountain" at the Venice Film Festival. And not just from the first screening audience. Reuters called his tale of a man (Hugh Jackman) who travels through time to save his cancer-beset wife (Aronofsky's real spouse and recent Oscar champ Rachel Weisz) "flatulent." Variety predicts, "A gush of negative word of mouth will keep b.o. at a trickle."
