Oscars trivia quiz: 3 stumpers

October 8, 2006 |  9:01 pm

1.) Name the two chaps who won best actor for their acting debuts on film: Ernest Borgnine ("Marty"), Adrien Brody ("The Pianist"), Bing Crosby ("Going My Way"), Richard Dreyfus ("The Goodbye Girl"), Ben Kingsley ("Gandhi"), Geoffrey Rush ("Shine") or Paul Scofield ("A Man for All Seasons")

2.) If Clint Eastwood ("Flags of Our Fathers") wins best director again, he'll join two other helmers who won three times, which is just one shy of the record. Name those three directors ahead of Clint: Frank Capra, Cecil B. DeMille, John Ford, Milos Forman, Alfred Hitchcock, Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Steven Spielberg, Billy Wilder, William Wyler or Fred Zinnemann.

3.) Prior to the 11 victories without a loss pulled off by "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," which two films (out of the six featured below) reigned as Oscar's biggest undefeated champs, having gone nine for nine races?

I answered question 2. Just look over it again. I just compiled a list of the Oscars they had one by category.

Yes, I remember Crash...

I was reading what you said before, and if Flags wins Best Pic, there are three producers for the movie, then one of them will be kicked off. I think it will be the third guy, making Clint and Spielberg taking the gold, if it wins, but you never know. Remember what happened to Crash?

He's talking about the Best Director Award, not all the Oscars.

Well right now, Clint has 4 Oscars: 2 Director and 2 Best Picture...then the Irving Thalberg Bust.

Frank Capra has three best directors.
Cecil B. Demille doesn't have any best director statuettes, but one best picture and an honorary statuette.
John Ford has four best directors.
Milos Forman has two best directors.
Alfred Hitchcock has none except for the Irving Thalberg Bust.
Joseph L. Mankiewicz has two for directing and two for writing.
Steven Spielberg has two best directors, one best picture, and the Irving Thalberg Bust.
Billy Wilder has two best directors, three for writing, one best picture, and the Irving Thalberg Bust.
William Wyler has three best directors and the Irving Thalberg Bust.
Fred Zinnemann has two best directors, one doc, and one best picture.

2. So it's three for Frank Capra and William Wyler, John Ford 4.

So if Clint wins for best director and best picture he'll have 6 Academy Awards! WOW.
Spielberg will have a total of four if FOF wins best picture.

I hope Spielberg gets nominated for Lincoln in 2008. Hey, it's a war drama...
Maybe Liam Neeson will also get his due.
