Running with Annette at 'Scissors'

October 11, 2006 | 11:03 am

My, my, look at what a good soldier, hubby and sport Warren Beatty was last night on the red carpet at the premiere of his wife's film "Running with Scissors" at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in Beverly Hills. The once paparazzi-chased heartthrob was mostly ignored by journos who plugged Annette Bening with questions about her latest film (possible fourth Oscar nom?) and, occasionally, her domestic life with Warren and their four kids. A few times Warren appeared distracted and looked away, twice at me, actually, while glowering a bit as if wondering, "What's that jerk doing taking photos on the wrong side of the carpet?" Or maybe, "What's that jerk doing holding up his Treo like that? Is that a call for me?" Obviously, the security goon to his left thought I looked suspicious, too.

Annette is destined to lose again if picked as the lead. The competition is too strong there: Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet, Judy Dench, and possibly Cate Blanchett. Her role sounds similar to Cruz's in Volver. I've seen Volver and Cruz is just mesmerising. And if her role is similar to American Beauty (well she lost there, although it was by far the best performance that year). The studio should put Annette in the supporting actress race. I think she could easily win there because we haven't had that strong performances this year and 2 possible contenders have won recently: Binoche and Blancett. The rest are newcomers. Annette would benefit from that, as it would be her 4th nomination.

Alright Tom O'Neil, you know you are my hero when it comes to this stuff and I must ask you DO YOU REALLY WANT ANNETTE BENNING to win an Oscar personally??? I don't ask with any misguided intention just want to know...because let's face it you weren't specifically kind to Hilary Swank both times she won over Annette so what do you think? Is she in for another Oscar night gone wrong??? Anyway take care sir!!!!!!
