Podcast: AP's Christy Lemire on 'Babel' @ Globes, 'Queen' @ Oscars

December 14, 2006 |  1:01 pm

"I'm surprised 'Babel' did as well as it did — to lead with seven nominations!" gasped Associated Press reporter Christy Lemire when we gabbed early this morning at the Globes press conference. "I think that picking out any acting performances from that whole, big ensemble is very difficult. They chose three. Funny to see Brad Pitt in a supporting category — the leading man who steals the show. But 'Babel' is a huge, sprawling international film. This is the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. So I guess it makes sense that it would resonate with them."

While "Babel" is coming on strong at the Globes, Christy believes "The Queen" will reign over the Oscars, claiming best picture. Yes, you read that correctly — not "Dreamgirls."

I'm so jealous... you know, we're so bummed that we lost Christy to L.A. here in the New York Film Critics Online. Damn you, Hollywood! :)
