Beyonce and academy respond to Oscar song news

January 3, 2007 |  4:57 pm

Yesterday when we broke the news that Beyonce Knowles is not eligible to be nominated for best song at the Oscars as she is at the Globes, we'd received confirmation from the studio. Now we've heard directly from the Oscars and Beyonce's rep.

First, here's what academy PR spokesman John Pavlik says: "Various branch executive committees have to make this kind of a decision almost every year, and the decision always comes down to the same thing: who had the most to do with the achievement being considered. It was no different in this case."

Beyonce's rep Alan Nierob says, "It's wrong to say that Beyonce was disqualified because she never qualified. Beyonce is aware of the Oscar rule that says only three songwriters can be nominated. It's all about percentages — how much each person contributed to the song. Beyonce contributed greatly to 'Listen,' but her percentage is lower, so she didn't expect to be eligible for nomination. She's very happy that her co-writers may be recognized."

Nierob confirms that Beyonce is officially credited as a best-song nominee at the Golden Globes.

a few weeks back on gma she was all excited about the oscar buzz going around, now shes saying she never wanted it...and besides she said her self that the writers would send her the song and she would say what she like from what she didnt...proving that she didnt write the song at all. Their has been many other reports that she doesnt write any of her songs!

it's not a question of being unfair-it's the rules people.they don't change them just for beyonce.and to say the song would have been nothing without her?please!!! there are plenty of r&b singers who could have done it also.IF THEY HAD NOT WRITTEN THE SONG-THERE WOULD BE NOTHING FOR HER TO SING.and-no one is picking on her-it's just all a fact.this reminds me of child who always gets everything their way and the first time they are told no-they have a fit.and do you realy think that krieger and the other two-all accomplished musicians and writers for many years needed her help that much.please.give them credit.it's their song.and it is a pipe dream for anyone to think that beyonce will the oscar for best actress...if they do-they are one of those people that think she should just win everything.everyone and their grandmother knows that the performance is totally not oscar worthy.also-their are other songs up for this catagory-people act as if listen is the only one up for the award.what about -never gonna break my faith(mary j and ARETHA FRANKLIN),now there's a woman that can "make" a song.or Prince,Seal,Sheryl Crow,Cris Cornell, all have very worthy songs.Beyonce is not the only one on the planet and so fabulous that she should have rules broken for her.no one is that fabulous.and if she did not know expect to be nominated-why did she say so on several occasions?

I'm sure she had no clue that she would not qualify, but really what else is she supposed to say. If she says that she is upset people will call her names, if she says she didnt know people will still think of something negative to say, really its a lose lose situation for Beyonce and it sucks. Even if she didnt contribute as much to the lyrics as the other writers, the song would be nothing without her vocals, then it would just be poetry that no one would read. I feel bad for her and I don't think its fair.

You are doing your thing Tom O' Neil great article yesterday and great news today even if they are not favorable to Beyoncé!!!!!!!!!

Leave Beyonce alone....

so this means...Beyonce "Dreamgirls" role was worthless....
honestly I see an upset in the Academy Awards for Best Actress.

Thank God Beyoncee didn't throw a hissy fit and ruin he song's chances!

if she knew she would not qualify-why even submitt with your name attached.
trying to clean things up now.
