Guild names costume contenders

January 11, 2007 |  8:33 am

The Costume Designers Guild has announced nominees, which span separate categories for contemporary, period and fantasy films. At the Oscars there's just one race, of course, which is usually dominated by the most ornate, frilly pix. This year three of the films sharing guild and Oscar bids will surely be "Pirates of the Caribbean 2," "Marie Antoinette" and "Dreamgirls." Beyond that, I ain't makin' no more costume predix!

Here are the guild contenders:

In the category covering contemporary films, the contenders are Patricia Field ("The Devil Wears Prada"), Consolata Boyle ("The Queen"), Nancy Steiner ("Little Miss Sunshine"), Lindy Hemming ("Casino Royale") and Michael Wilkinson ("Babel").

In the race spanning period pix: Milena Canonero ("Marie Antoinette"), Sharen Davis ("Dreamgirls"), Chung Man Yee ("Curse of the Golden Flower"), Ngila Dickson ("The Illusionist"), Penny Rose ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest").

Fantasy flicks: Kym Barrett ("Eragon"), Renee April ("The Fountain"), Sammy Sheldon ("V for Vendetta"), Lala Huete ("Pan's Labyrinth"), Judianna Makovsky ("X-Men: The Last Stand").

Good for Pat FIelds for Prada - always loved her stuff on Sex & The CIty. Hope that Sharen Davis wins in the other category for Dreamgirls - she perdectly got the feel of the time period.

More support for LMS. If it starts to pick up editing or Cim guilds next I'm starting to think it will win best picture even if they dont show up in these places durning the Oscar nomations.
