Peter O'Toole has landed!
Yesterday — at long last and calming the jittery nerves of Miramax execs — Peter O'Toole arrived in the U.S. to attend the Golden Globes and to begin his Oscar campaign, officially and finally, in person. After 74 years of a wild life, the notorious gadfly is really healthy and fairly robust, despite rumors to the contrary, but doesn't like flying — or Hollywood, for that matter — and isn't afraid to ditch planned visits at the last minute. That's what he did in September — ducked out of the Toronto Film Festival just a day or two before he was due to premiere "Venus," citing a case of "gastric nasties." So you can imagine how nervous his Oscar campaigners have been about getting him stateside for the Globes ceremony and his Oscar campaign. But he made it — to cyberscreams of joy. Yesterday I got a Blackberry message from one of his campaign chiefs, exclaiming, "He's on the plane!"
He landed in New York yesterday for an appearance on "The David Letterman Show" tonight. Today he's also shooting a photo session for Vanity Fair's Oscar issue and is taping an interview with "The View" that will air on Friday. While in town he's also doing interviews with Charlie Rose, "Today," "Nightline" and with Jon Stewart for "The Daily Show." Plus print interviews with the likes of USA Today and radio chats with "All Things Considered" on NPR. Then he heads west to attend the Golden Globes. How long will he remain in Hollywood? Nobody knows, probably not even charmingly cranky O'Toole himself.

Well, O'Toole wasn't at the Golden Globes tonite. Sad thing, it would've been nice to see him, however he's not the only one who doesn't attend award shows (Paul Newman is another).

SAG usually tends to vote for the younger nominees and that's why they tend to nominate very young actors and actresses.(Johnny's Depp's win at the SAGs over Sean Penn...Dakota Fanning for I AM SAM...Youngest nominee at age 6...)but Peter won't take the SAGS...that could either go to Will Smith or Forrest Whitaker....but he will take the Oscar...not sure about the Globes, but there is a very, VERY good chance he will.
Oh, and I'm telling you that Helen Mirren will lose the Oscar if she doesn't win either the Globe or SAG...and that's a very big possibility...Mirren is losing buzz, even if she is winning everything, it's becoming pretty old news and voters usually like to spread the awards so if she loses, (I'm betting on the SAGS--which will either go to Kate Winslet, Penelope, Judi or Meryl...in that order)
