Producers guild hails 'Cars' as best animated pic

January 20, 2007 | 10:14 pm

"Cars" just zoomed past "Happy Feet," "Flushed Away," "Ice Age" and "Monster House" to win the Producers Guild of America award for best animated pic. Wow. It still has so much momentum despite being released last June.

Recently, it won the equivalent award at the Golden Globes and, before that, National Board of Review. Usually, award patterns would favor recently released pix like "Happy Feet," which, let's face it, also has a much more upbeat title, which usually helps when voters look over a ballot. But 3,000 gallons of testosterone is a major factor in the guild dominated so vastly by men who, so notoriously, love cars more than steak, dogs and . . . oh, never mind. Stay tuned. The guild's top best pic prize will be announced in a few minutes.
