Early Oscarcast Nielsen ratings up from last year
"Reliable demo and total-viewer projections won't be available until midday, but ABC's coverage of the 79th annual Academy Awards on Sunday averaged an overnight household rating in line with its previous four-year average," reports Variety. "According to Nielsen's metered-market overnights, the kudocast averaged a 27.7 rating/42 share, up slightly from last year's 27.1/40 and 2003's 25.5/37, but below the scores of 2004 (29.8/43) and 2005 (30.1/43). Last year's show, in which 'Crash' took home the top prize, averaged 38.94 million viewers overall — the second smallest audience since 1988. This year's show should top 40 million in the nationals, making it the season's most-watched entertainment telecast."

Please no Jerry Seinfeld--not funny at all...just annoying and pompous...Let's have Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump for sh*ts and giggles...

For years we've been hearing that 1 billion viewers worldwide tune in to see the Academy Awards broadcast. Pardon my math, but with just 40 million viewers in the U.S. representing 11% of the nation's population, we would have to believe that 25 times that number are viewing from outside the U.S. The claim would also imply that nearly 20% of the world's population tunes in the broadcast, and that's almost twice the rate of US viewers... Methinks the hype strains credulity...

I agree, Seinfeld would rock!
Does anybody know what that red pin was in Leo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou and Ryan Gosling's lapels? It looked like the American Red Cross blood services....Thanks!
