In absentia on In Memoriam
Believe it or not, some Oscar fans are furious that Anna Nicole Smith wasn't hailed in the Im Memoriam salute during the telecast? In our forums, there is a lively yearlong discussion over which deceased stars will make the cut — and which won't — for the annual segment. Poster seanflynn provided an analysis of the dead certainties as well as the likely, possible and longshot candidates. Join in this ongoing debate HERE. One of our hardworking forum moderators, Boomer, mentions an official AMPAS list of Academy members who have passed away, which can be found HERE.
And over on The Huffington Post, documentary filmmaker and journalist Gabriel Rotello weighed in with his thoughts on the omission of Oscar winners composer Malcolm Arnold (best score, "Bridge Over the River Kwai") and Louis Edemann (best sound, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit") as well as nominees screenwriter Leonard Schrader ("Kiss of the Spider Woman") and costume designer Donfeld. His analysis revealed 16 of the 33 honorees were actors (though surprisingly not Yvonne DeCarlo) and he argues that, at five seconds a person, adding another half dozen would stretch the 3-hour plus show by a mere 30 seconds.
Photo: Was Anna Nicole Smith snubbed again by the academy? Perhaps a few of her fans will never get over how cruel Oscar voters were not to nominate her for "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult." (Paramount)

Where were Adrienne Shelly or Chris Penn? Fucking retards cut the clips for time.
And Yvonne DeCarlo was in The Ten Commandments. They put in lesser stars last year who were in one large, classic movie, and they won't put her in? Ridiculous.

She was not an actress and should not be included. She was many many things, publicity seeker, model, and somethings that a respectful human being would never dare post. But she brought nothing to the art of film making, she did not contribute to filmmaking in any way, the In Memoriam is put together to honor those who dedicated their lives to the biz, and or made a sizeable contribution to the art, who were nominated for an Academy award, or who were snubbed and this is their last chance to honor them. She will be remembered for the old coot she married, the manner of her death, and the fact that she slept with enough men to put into serious doubt the paternity of her child.

She won't be included next year, unless VERY FEW people who worked in film die over the next year.
Smith appeared in, according to my count, 3 films, none of which were exactly critically acclaimed.
Now, she DOES deserve to be included in the In Memorium segment at this year's Emmys.

It is still very upsetting that motion pictures & television actress, Yvonne De Carlo was not part of the Acadeny's (In Memoriam). That is such a slap in the face for Yvonne De Carlo. At least the Academy could have honored her this way, I feel that they owe her some kind of tribute and hopefully next year, they will be KIND enough to include her!!!!
What is the reall the "REAL' reason that the Academy dismissed her this way? After all, she had a long time career in motion pictures (BEFORE) she graced the television playing the role of Lily Munster in the hit tv series, The Munsters, therefore she deserved to have been part of that "memoriam" as she contributed so much to the industry.
How unfair and what a shame..... I do hope that the members of the Academy will somehow, someway honor her....she so much deserves the recognition.

I'm guessing by this time next year, we'll all have forgotten Anna Nicole, including the Academy.

She'll be there next year. She died in January. Kubrick wasn't on the 200 In Memoriam, though he had a special package. He showed up on the next year's.
