Podcast: USA Today's Bianco on new Emmy voting process
No TV reviewer has played a more impacting role — whether he intended to or not — on the new Emmy voting changes than Robert Bianco of USA Today. Right before the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recently voted to accept the new procedures, chairman Dick Askin read aloud portions from a Bianco article slamming last year's nominations. Waving the newspaper clipping in the air like a crusader's flag on the eve of heading into battle, Askin told governors that they must enact the changes recommended by the academy's awards committee because, "We just can't take this abuse from the TV critics anymore!"
