Tonys 2008: Harvey Fierstein pens and plays 'The Catered Affair'
Michael Riedel of the New York Post breaks news yet again in his dishy interview with Harvey Fierstein, who says he is on his way back to Broadway next season in a musical version of "The Catered Affair," Paddy Chayefsky's bittersweet Fifties flick about a family struggling to pay for their daughter's wedding.
Fierstein is handling the adaptation while cabaret favorite John Bucchino composes and John Doyle directs.
Fierstein, already the winner of an unprecedented four Tonys for both acting and writing plays and musicals, is also set to star as the 'confirmed bachelor' uncle. No word on who will be playing the parents (Ernest Borgnine and Bette Davis in the film) but Riedel pushes for Oscar nominee John C. Reilly who did a critically acclaimed turn last year in a musical version of "Marty" (another Chayefsky role which Borgnine rode to an Oscar).
