3 teens shot at Kids' Choice Awards after-party

April 1, 2007 | 11:57 pm

The Associated Press reports: Suspected gang members opened fire on a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards after-party early Sunday, wounding three and scattering 200 mostly teenage attendees, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 12:30 a.m. at a drapery store rented for the party in the western part of the city, said Los Angeles police Lt. Roger Deranian. The party was thrown by someone who had attended the awards, but was not an official Nickelodeon function and had no celebrity guests, Deranian said.

At least one person opened fire with an automatic weapon on the crowd after the group of five was denied entry to the party, Deranian said.

The three victims were hit below the waist and did not face life threatening injuries, he said. One was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The two others were transported in private vehicles.
