Furtado favored to sweep Junos
Before hosting Sunday's televised portion of the Junos (Canada's version of the Grammys), Nelly Furtado got in some much needed practice Saturday speaking in public when she won two awards - artist and pop album of the year - at the non-televised portion of the event. As she cheerfully admitted while fumbling for the right words, "You guys are like, 'Oh god, she's hosting the Junos? What the hell, she's horrible!'" The sultry songstress is favored to win three more prizes tonight - both record ("Loose") and single of the year ("Promiscuous") as well as fan favorite.
As with the Grammys, this non-televised ceremony, an invitation only dinner in Saskatoon, dispatched the bulk of the awards (32 of the 39) leaving only 7 for the kudocast on CTV. The Canadian broadcaster ruffled more than a few feathers earlier this week when it announced it was bumping the Junos back an hour so that it could run a special two-hour edition of "The Amazing Race" at the same time as CBS.
