Shaiman adds ASCAP honor to crowded mantle

April 19, 2007 |  9:44 am

Songwriter Marc Shaiman, a Tony and Grammy winner for "Hairspray," and an Emmy winner for his witty Oscarcast medleys, was feted with the Henry Mancini lifetime achievement honor at the ASCAP awardsfest Tuesday night. The music filled salute, including a turn by Marissa Janet Winokur, a Tony winner for "Hairspray," took place at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Shaiman, who wrote two new songs for the upcoming film version of "Hairspray," hopes to be back onstage there next February as an Oscar winner after five nominations.
