Showtime ships first campaign box to Emmy voters

April 16, 2007 | 10:33 am

If what goes 'round truly comes 'round, then Showtime should do well with the velvet-lined circular container (with a tag dangling, marked "Shaping TV's Future") recently shipped to Emmy voters with these DVDs: "Dexter" (complete first season), "Weeds" (complete second season), "The Tudors" (six episodes), "Brotherhood" (complete first season), "Sleeper Cell: American Terror" (complete season, marked for miniseries race, but now to be considered for drama series after late-breaking Emmy rule change), "The L Word" (episodes "Legend in the Making," "Livin' La Vida Loca," "Lassoed," "Layup," "Lez Girls," "Luck Be a Lady"), "The Underground" (episodes 101, 102, 108), "Sexual Healing" (episodes 101, 105), "Penn & Teller: Bullsh*t!" ("Abstinence"), "This American Life" (episodes "God's Closeup," "My Way"), "Masters of Horror" (episodes "Family," "Sounds Like," "Black Cat").

Showtime was wise to ship its package early, long before the onslaught of rivals. Lots of academy members dove into it last weekend and this current one. Several told me that they watched a few "Tudors" episodes first, then "Dexter," then various different choices. Reax so far are aces.
