Exclusive news: We've got Emmy's comedy episode titles!

Uglybettyquote

In order to track the Emmy derby, you need to follow what episodes are submitted to judges. Remember, contenders aren't determined by an appraisal of the whole TV season. They pick a sample of their best work and prevail or fail based on how smart or stupid they are with their choices.

A popular vote of TV academy members will take place in June. Then the top 10 vote-getters for series and acting will submit their sample episode to judges, who'll rank entries 1 to 10. That total score then gets meshed on a 50/50 basis with the original popular vote and, presto, five nominees are named per category.

After that, only judges weighing the sample episodes determine who wins. No popular vote figures in.

So, knowing what those episodes will be is crucial to Emmy watching. The Envelope has been diligent gathering what info we can. Below is a partial list of episodes to be entered in the comedy races. Plot descriptions are courtesy of each show.

Please note: these choices are tentative. Contenders are permitted to change their minds up until the end of Emmy's eligibility period of May 31.

If you know additional episode titles, please let us know. Also, please pipe in with your opinion of these contenders' choices. In the next few days I'll publish the list of drama series episodes. As we say in the TV biz — stay tuned.

Comments

Scrubs aced their series submission. Hopefully Emmy gets it right.

"Slap Bet" has got to be the funniest half hour of TV I've ever seen. I don't know how you can ignore a show that can pull off an episode like that.

~Steven

JOHN KRASINSKI for THE OFFICE
"Business School" (air date 2/15/07)

Did Jim do anything but pretend to be a vampire in that episode? It seems like a weird choice.

I hope Weeds takes them all!

"Is there anybody out there that actually thinks that Monk is funny?????? It's a single premise comedy that's going on five years, garnering three Emmys for Tony Shaloub,"

Yes! Tony Shahloub (correct spelling) is brilliant - do you even watch the show? I'm not the only one who thinks the show and Tony are funny. He deserves all his Emmys!

I really hope 2 and half men win. They are best comedy on tv this season

I really hope the My Name is Earl episode, "Our Cops is on" is nominated.
Steve Carell definately deserves a victory this year as his character is one of my comedic favorites of the past 10 years. Rainn Wilson deserves a nomination as well. I would love to see "Everybody Hates Chris" get nominated for something. Jenna Fischer and Jaime Pressley are brilliant in their respective parts. I can't stand seeing America Ferrara and Alec Baldwin receiving awards for mediocre work.

What about the kid that plays Justin in Ugly Betty? He is probably the funniest guy on that show, much much more funny than the guy that plays his grandpa. So happy to see Becki Newton on that list though!!! I want an Ugly Betty sweet!

"where is Jeremy Piven?" did you guys not understand this article? This isn't the list of nominations this is a list of SOME of the eppisodes submitted to be considered for nomination, this is in no way an official or final list of nominees. I'm sure Jeremy Piven has submitted himself for consideration, or will soon.

I think at least 2 housewies will recieve a nomination based on the Lead actresess that have submitted work thus far. Felicity Huffman is defintiely one, because she can't lose with the Bang episode. It would've been nice if Marcia Cross submitted for Supporting this year since her charachter had less screen time this season. That could've double the chances of two housewive winning this year. Here are my nominee predictions.

AMERICA FERRARA: UGLY BETTY
FELICITY HUFFMAN: DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
JULIA LOUIS DREYFUSS: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE
MARY LOUIS PARKER: WEEDS
(ANOTHER HOUSEWIVE: EITHER MARCIA, TERRI, OR EVA)

It would be nice if Tachina Arnold scored a nomination but here's hopin. Only time will tell us the results.

Is there anybody out there that actually thinks that Monk is funny?????? It's a single premise comedy that's going on five years, garnering three Emmys for Tony Shaloub, and overlooking other comedic actors like Steve Carrell and Jason Bateman.

Thank god that Will and Grace is finally out of the running for any awards this year....maybe some other (better) shows will get a chance instead

Not sure about Kevin Dillon, but I definitely support a nod for Pivens.

And I know the show itself was lukewarm and most likely will be cancelled (if it hasn't been already), but there was some great talent on "The Class"-Jesse Tyler Ferguson in particular.

Where is the love for How I Met your Mother? That show is awesome!

My thoughts exactly- Jeremy Piven clearly deserves at least a nomination, as does Kevin Dillon. Support your Entourage, people.

I hope Jenna Fischer gets nominated...she definately deserves it. I sorta wish that she'd chosen an episode like the one where she does the art show and Steve Carell comes and cheers her up - that one shows her emotional side, too, which is just as good as her comedic side.

What are the chances of Wanda Sykes getting a nomination for The New Adventures of Old Christine? She's so good...

woooohoooooo jenna fisher must get a nod, plzzzzzz!!!
she was so good in that ep.
also im rotting for kransinski (L) and of course steve and rainn.
go the office!!
and teri hatcher :P

I'm hoping Desperate Housewife Laurie Metcalf submits BANG! for Guest Actress in a Comedy - terrifying and funny all at once.

Nicolette Sheridan is doing great work in her current arc, but it's not funny work.

Uh-oh, Tom... it looks like the Housewives are at it again, submitting great dramatic work - notably Felicity's "Bang" ep - in the comedic category. Besides the fact that it seems unfair (I really think 'Housewives' should switch to drama this year), do you think it's wise? (And is this the only way the ladies of Wisteria Lane can hope to top America Ferrera or Julia Louis-Dreyfus?)

Where's Jeremy Piven?
