Grammy Alert: 'American Idol' loser Daughtry could be big winner

Although it may seem like the Grammys were just on TV yesterday, watching them should continue year-round. That's because music released last December, this month or up through this summer, may be major contenders in the next Grammy contest.
We are about half way through the eligibility period spanning the next Grammy race (Oct. 1, 2006 to Sept. 30, 2007). It's time to take stock of some current hit singles and videos — plus upcoming releases — that might be major Grammy players.

I think Daughtry is the most deserving of winning a grammy. For a new talent to be consistently in the top 10 of the Billboard charts since the release in November and it shows no signs of slowing down. Wow--2.4 million sold already is just amazing. I love this CD. I went to a few of the concerts and this is my favorite band for many reasons. Very deserving of a grammy. This music is so much better than the hip-hop, rap crap of the past few years.

Numbers is what it is all about. 2 million sold and hovering at the top of the charts along with hitting #1 twice. 'Nuff said. 45 year old women his main fan base? Not quite. Nice research though. Saw the show live and dug it. I'm only 30 and I'm pretty sure there were absolutely no 45 year old women there except the bar owner and the old lady puking outside next to the dumpster. She was probably 70 though and couldn't hear anyway. It's all about staying power at the top of the charts. Carrie Underwood has been near the top for way over a year and has hit over 5 million in sales. Daughtry is of that calibur. He wrote an album full of radio hits. Radio hits = Record Sales = Not being dropped by Your Label. If a musician wants to be a musician for a living he has to stay at the top. Talent + Drive + Hits = Longevity in the music business. I am now too old to try out for American Idol. Procrastination + laziness + unemployed + geographical location + transportationlessness + talent = LOSER
thanks for being there for me mom.

I am stunned at the comments some of you left here. Oh, and the comments about Daughtry's fan base being 45 yr old women, with whatever narrow-minded stereotyping you chose to use, is inaccurate and just a result of poor research. Getting your facts straight before you open your mouth might help in future debates...
There is nothing for me to prove here.. the proof is in the pudding! All I will say is WATCH AND SEE! lol, suckers!!!!

I hope Daughtry wins. I am so proud of what Chris has done this past year and I love this band. This music is so much better than a lot of the crap that is out there right now. Music has been going progressively downhill and for a change we have a few bands playing some good rock. I don't understand the criticism, but hey different strokes. You can't argue with the sales numbers for the band-they are on fire!

Daughtry is really generic, bland rock a la Bon Jovi and Creed, etc. When it comes to nominating Best New Artist come Grammy Awards time...NARAS has a good record of getting it all wrong (Milli Vanilli, Marie Osmond, Starland Vocal Band, Debby Boone, A Taste of Honey, Color Me Badd, The Partridge Family, Robert Goulet, etc....should I go on and on?). Sadly though, Daughtry stands a good chance of being nominated in this category as long as he's getting radio airplay (try KIISfm...the worst radio station that shoves pop crap down your throat nonstop) and his CD is selling...Always remember Grammy nominations consist of at least 3 good to excellent choices in every category and two to three fair to really bad choices are thrown in the mix...with the bad choice always winning (think "Falling Into You" by Celine Dion win for Album of the Year)....

YES!! Daughtry would be so deserving of this honor. My favorite band. First time I have enjoyed music in a long time. I saw them in concert and love them!

To the first comment, this i have to say: Daughtry is not bland and boring AND Chris certainly does not have an annoying voice, A thousand people heard him both on tv and live, he sounds great, certainly better than other veteran rock singers. Chris has a clear gravelly voice that has captured the hearts men and women alike of all ages. Your description of 45 year old women in bedazzled tshirts? You might be confusing his fan base with others, dont you think? And what if there are 45 year old women fans who knows how to rock? What do you have anything against these women who certainly has better taste in music and a good listening ear? Have you been to any of his concerts? Because I've been keeping up with this guy and the positive write ups about his concert tours are overwhelming.Even during the AI tour, his numbers are the most anticipated and cheered on. His double platinum status just a few months after the release of his debut album speaks louder than anything his critiques has to say. . His first single Its Not Over is Prison Break's 2nd season OST, There and back again WWE theme song, and Home is AIs elimination song. Check out Youtube and you get lots of vids using his songs as background. My mom is over 45 years old and she thinks that Chris should have won that competition if based on talent aloneAnd Ive been a fan since the time I heard him sing on that AI stage because with that voice, I know someday he's gonna be a superstar. Im glad he's on this path and a grammy certainly wont hurt.

If Daughtry is even nominated for a Grammy this year I will be shocked. Surely their 15 minutes is up? This faux-rock band is bland and boring, Chris Daughtry is only mildly talented with an annoying voice and a "look at me I'm doing the rock thing" demeanor . I'm embarrassed for him! 90% of their fanbase is 45 year old women in bedazzled t-shirts and high-heeled flip-flops. Please make them just go away now.

Still too early to tell...but going on artistic merit and not commercial...Album of the Year frontrunners would be: Nine Inch Nails and The Arctic Monkeys...Best New Artist: (so far) Amy Whinehouse, Lily Allen, Daughtry....I hope Rock Female Vocal Performance category is back again..Patti Smith is definitely deserving with "12" and especially her cover of "Gimme Shelter"...so hopefully along with Ms. Smith we'll see Pink, Avril, Bjork, Tori, Yoko, Kelly Clarkson (yes, Kelly has been rocking lately), Lily Allen, Lucinda Williams, and others vie for a spot...if not enough candidates are able to fill the category then NARAS will have to stick to Best Rock Solo Performance instead and again hopefully Patti Smith is amongst the nominees...
