'Deadwood's' Emmy future may be dead

July 12, 2007 |  8:46 pm

Deadwood"It may not happen," admitted HBO exec Michael Lombardo today when discussing the possibility of resurrecting "Deadwood" to give it a proper TV burial. Creator David Milch left the show dangling and unfinished last year when he turned to launching "John from Cincinnati" and now may not be interested in reviving it. Also, it may be too expensive to do so and too difficult to round up the actors who've since moseyed off to do other projects. But Lombardo told TCA Press Tour members, "We're still interested, (but) we've had no conversations with David yet."

In the past, "Deadwood" earned 22 Emmy noms, but only seven wins — all in tech categories, except one (directing, 2004). Two years ago, it reaped noms for best drama series and actor (Ian McShane). McShane won a Golden Globe for the role in 2005.

What's wrong with HBO? Was Deadwood not making money? Were they better off making new stuff at the expense of the tried and true? We don't pay to watch it here in NZ - it's played on free-to-air but the idea of spoiling this fantastic series by seeing it with commercials is too much to bear so, like a load of other fans here I've got all three series on DVD. And now we don't get the pleasure of seeing the two wrap-up movies? Where's the logic?

HBO, unbelieveable that you are backing out on the Deadwood movies. Best series ever on TV, first you cancel it...then you can't even give it a proper send off! Who's running HBO? Clueless idiots! No wonder all the fans are saying they are cancelling HBO!

I tried, I really tried to sit through John From Cincinnati. I loved Milch's writing on NYPD Blue, Big Apple, etc. and somehow had missed Deadwood until a few months ago. I just finished savoring each episode and think it's probably the best show ever, yes ever, on television. I literally thought about these characters daily at work, wondering what was going to happen to each of them.

Not so with "John." If I wanted to watch David Lynch, I'd watch David Lynch. Milch is a total genius, so what is he doing putting his name on this? The actors from Deadwood are so under-used. I feel sorriest for Ed O'Neill, who is a fantastic actor who hasn't had the good luck to land on a decent dramatic series since Big Apple.

Yeah, this is rambling, but I'm pissed because I just read that the movies that I hoped would wrap up the whole storyline are now "50-50." Well, HBO, my subscription to your channel is now 0-0. No more Six Feet Under, Sopranos and Deadwood means no more HBO. Sorry.

See ya HBO, I will never watch another show.

Carneville - gone
Deadwood - incomplete
Sapronos - disapointed ending
John from who cares - never watched it or ever will

P.S.
Bill Maher sucks

HBO have made a deal,to make the 2 movies for the fans.
But what do HBO,coming with so bad excuses...
Why did HBO ever come out with it?? Dont tell me HBO think none of the actors would do
other projects when seasong 3 was done-since HBO shut it down.
HBO have shown one BIG thing atleast-don`t ever TRUST HBO when they say they are planning
to do something to give a great serie an real ending.
Hurray for HBO...... NOT

First HBO agree on making to movies regarding DEADWOOD,and now you say you can`t do it??
How about beeing fair to the fans of DEADWOOD??
But instead HBO make bad excuses, and I guess HBO never will bother to make the movies.
So hurray for HBO-NOT

I'm an Englishman but was fortunate enough that Sky bought the rights to show Deadwood over this side of the Atlantic.

As per Rich above, most of my family were hooked on the show. It really was excellently written and superbly acted.

In these days when shows such as Smith can be axed during their first season by the American networks, those that retain their brilliance throughout three action packed seasons should be given a decent send off.

Deadwood has been the only TV series ever, that my entire adult family have united together to watch as an event. Only the Superbowl has ever generated that type of group interest. My parents, Myself, My three brothers and thier wives have enjoyed every episode. Thats NINE people! And we have at least two friends who are also into Deadwood. Nobody in our group gives a rat's about John from Cicinatti.
HBO, You really "F'D" Up...

HBO was nuts to cancel Deadwood to begin with but to now renege on the movies with bullshit excuses is unaccaptable. I am not waiting around to see if John from Who-cares-ville gets renewed.

HBO has ceased to exist for me.
