Isaiah Washington admits he's a sore Emmy loser

July 20, 2007 |  6:08 am

Isaiah1

Bite your tongue and try not to laugh. Isaiah Washington believes he would've been nominated for an Emmy yesterday. It's widely assumed that he didn't submit his name for consideration because, well, why bother, right? He wasn't nommed for acting last year and there hasn't exactly been — ahem — a surge of industry support for him since.

But the humility-challenged ex-star of "Grey's Anatomy" told Access Hollywood, "It wasn't about not submitting because I was afraid of the backlash. I didn't want the pain of being nominated and losing. "

Refering to his program's bid for best drama series, he added, "I didn't have a good time at the last Emmys. It was the stress of 'Are we going to win? Are we going to win?' the whole day. I remember being on the red carpet and it was hot and my wife and I had the biggest argument because of my nerves."

Oh, don't worry, Isaiah. There's preposterous hope that you may actually WIN someday now that you've miraculously landed a new job with "Bionic Woman." The original earned Lindsay Wagner an Emmy, albeit one of the most ridiculed wins in the award's history.

Remember Washington telling Larry King that he thinks T.R. Knight should be fired from "Grey's Anatomy"? (One of the least-reported outrages in a loaded interview.) Well, now Washington just did one of his celebrated backflips and says Knight just received a well-deserved Emmy nomination.

Proof of what a bad actor Washington really is can be see in the video clip of him uttering these words of congratulation, "T.R. Knight is a good actor. He has been a wonderful actor from day one," Isaiah said. "T.R. Knight, congratulations. He finally got the attention he deserved."

I have not twisted Isaiah's words at all. How have I done that? Do you mean Isaiah didn't lie when he said he didn't call TR a 'faggot'? Do you mean he didn't tell Larry King that JR should be fired? Of course, he did -- and, as a poster below points out, he's said it on other occasions, too. I think people should look at the facts of this situation and get past their personal fondness for someone and examine the truth.

If you think I've misquoted Isaiah, his quotes to Access are on video. His interview with Larry King all over YouTube. His previous comments about how TR should be fired are all over the Internet.

When will people like you stop twisting Isaiah Washington's words? Don't you have a sense of responsibility to report the facts as they are presented and not try to take it totally out of context to disparage a person who really does not deserve this level of hate that reporters like you are spewing out all over the internet. You, Ted Cassablanca, Kristin and the reporters like you are really the problem with what is wrong with the Hollywood media..Unforgiving hypocrites the bunch of you!

Isaiah Washington is an immensely talented actor who if submitted for an Emmy would have won in a right world. It is his phenomenal brilliance that made him a great catch for NBC...his work speaks for itself. It was not miraculous that he was picked up.....He is one of the best there is out there today.
TR Knight as much as I have no respect for him for his obvious scheming ways is as Isaiah said a wonderful actor. He used to be one of my favorite actors on Greys until they started messing with his character. As much as I know he could never win an Emmy I still recognize his good talent and an actor.
A little objectivity and truth in your journalistic career would do you good, Tom. Don't poison the rest of America with your personal hate for someone ...very unbecoming..kay!

Tom you may be playing yourself harder with this IW situation than you did with your Oscar hopes for Dreamgirls. (As if that's even possible)

The drama surrounding IW and the gay f bomb is much predicated on a lie. TR Knight should be ashamed of himself and fired because he ran to the Ellen show and tried to make it like IW used the gay f bomb in an argument with him that forced him out of the closet when the truth was that he wasn't even in the room when it was used, he lied about the entire thing to get himself ahead, and Katherine Heigel got in on the act too.

I'm not jumping on the hate IW bandwagon with you. In fact I'm so disgusted how the media, ABC and Grey Anatomy handled the entire situation, I won't be watching Grey's anymore. The Bionic Woman won itself another viewer.

please stop trying so hard to make us HATE isaiah,,its not gonna work,,,you are just loosing more
credibility,,just be a reporter..pleeeeeaaassee...thanks

Backflip? Is it possible for once to separate the work an actor does from the actor's private life?

On Larry King Live, Washington said "I think T.R. should have been addressed" because of "the behavior that he promoted," after he was earlier quoted as saying "they fired the wrong guy." Washington never said anything against T.R. Knight's acting ability.

Personally, I think both Washington and Knight are fine actors who both deserve to be recognized for their hard work and I respect both of them for their decisions to either enter or stay out of the Emmy race for whatever reasons they so choose. If anything, I think that the controversy surrounding Washington helped Knight (who already had a strong tape) get a nomination, as I suspect many Emmy voters were not familiar with him before. I just hope that Washington's talents aren't overshadowed by the controversy and that he is still able to make a career as an actor, no matter where he ends up.
