POLL RESULTS: What's the worst Emmy nomination?

July 29, 2007 | 12:44 pm

"Boston Legal's" bid for drama series — that's the overwhelming verdict of our forum posters declaring the worst Emmy nom of the year. Even though The Envelope's poll offered 12 options, about half (47%) of respondents chose just one: ABC's legal thriller.

Dillonpq_2In second place, with 12%: "Two and a Half Men's" nom for best comedy series. SEE FULL RESULTS - CLICK HERE!

I voted for "Inside the Actors Studio" for nonfiction series. Such shameless, disgusting, indulgent slobbering over celebs should really be declared obscene by the U.S. Supreme Court, I say — right after it lifts all objections to pornography.

Just for fun I threw in Kevin Dillon as an option in the poll — to see all hell break loose among the hipster dudes and testosterone-charged "Entourage" fanboyz in our forums. Sure enough, they went ballistic at the suggestion that Dillon's Emmy nomination for supporting actor in a comedy series might be considered in a league below, say, Richard Burton's Oscar nom for "Becket."

But, speaking of Academy Award parallels, at least Dillon's Emmy bid ain't an outright joke like the Oscar nomination recently reaped by "The Departed" star Mark Wahlberg . . .

. . . upon whose life "Entourage" is based. Dillon has talent, but . . . hmmmm . . . how much, really?

I think both Dillon's and Boston Legal's noms were diserving. My vote went to the Starter Wie for best writing for a TV Movie. Now that was the absolute worst nomination this year. It was the most dry and writing I've ever seen. The most corney lines in tv history. The God the acting was able to some what save it.

Don't bash Entourage "fanboyz," Tom, I remember you were a certain Dreamgirls fanboy yourself...and at least Entourage got nominated for the top prize.

And Piven, who I love, really does less acting that Dillon...all Ari does is yell...that's funny, but hardly acting.

I don't consider myself a "hipster" or "testerone-charged fan boy" (nor does anyone else, come to think of it), but Kevin Dillon's nomination was well-deserved.

It's no more of a stretch for him to play a washed-up actor than it is for Rainn Wilson to play a big nerd.

Wahlberg's nomination was one of the most perfect of recent years, the very definition of Best SUPPORTING Actor. He had some of the best lines in Monahan's Oscar-winning script, and knocked them all out of the park.

As for Dillion, his episode was absolutely perfect. A well deserved nomination. Victory!

Boston Legal is a legal drama Damages is a legal thriller. No nomination was more surprising and satisfying than Boston Legal's.

Look at what is required of Kevin Dillon:
Playing a has-been constantly on the verge of a nervous breakdown, while being oblivious to his own stupidity.

How does a role like that NOT require the work of a great actor?

And his submission tape, The Resurrection, in which his character hunts down a Variety writer for a bad review only to flee town fearing dismal ratings, is an absolute knockout. Much better than John Krasinski's tape, in which his character pretends to be a vampire... and his role is just playing himself (same could be said for Jon Cryer, by the way.)

I guess you hated The Departed because Mark Wahlberg had most of the best lines and has always been an underrated actor. He deserved that oscar nomination. As for Kevin Dillion, besides Jeremy Piven, he's the 2nd best person in Entourage.

I think Piven will win though.

Are you serious? The Boston Legal mention I understand (becasue, well, it was the worst nomination after all--poor Lost). Even the Two and a Half Men bashing I get (it's not critically good, but stay-at-home moms LOVE it). But poor Kevin Dillion, that's nothing more than an undeserved slap in the face for one of the BEST nominations of this year's Emmys period. he truly deserved his nomination this season, after allowing his INCREDIBLY COMPLEX character to grow, and his submission ep. was far superior to Piven's and I truly hope that Dillion wins this year. Seriously.

And Marky Marky's Oscar nod was worthy:

Just becasue you don't cry, doesn't mean it's not Oscar worthy. Acting cool is still acting.

I'm really starting to loose respect for you, Tom.

Tom, you're an idiot. Drama is not one-dimensional, and neither is Kevin Dillon's acting. If you wanted to blast someone for being macho, then go after Jeremy Piven, not Dillon. Drama is hardly macho at all. He's a failing actor who has terrible self esteem issues and who can only succeed if he is mooching off his brother. His episode submission proved that Dillon can pull that off flawlessly.

Well Boston Legal is the best of the nominees save maybe Heroes and it's a good thing that the academy doesn't listen to retarded forum posters

Of course, I am neither a "hipster" nor a guy and I still think Kevin Dillon isn't anywhere close to being the worst nomination of the Emmys. He's there, but Masi Oka and Heroes are not? Kind of silly.
