Who got snubbed: Here's the Emmy Hall of Shame!

How ironic. The Emmys changed their voting system this year just to make sure "Lost" didn't get lost in the race for best drama series — and it happened AGAIN. The fact that "24" got snubbed ain't no big deal, though. TV critics say, frankly, it didn't deserve a shot.

Here's a hoot. I was just griping to Steve Gorman of Reuters over the fact that Michael C. Hall wasn't nommed for "Dexter." He shrugged and said, "Yeah, it's kind of sad. They'll nominate a gangster like Tony Soprano, but they draw the line at a serial killer!" The Emmys have standards! Who knew?

Here's what else got axed:

The Wire. The best drama over the past 4 years. Do yourself a favor and beg, borrow or steal (and then return) a DVD set. Especially last season; it broke my heart.

You know, I used to think Hollywood rewarded those programs and films that tackled the big issues of the day , especially if the issue is a huge one for modern society and if the program's position on the issue is in keeping with what most of the Hollywood establishment agrees with. Well, one issue that is dominating political and societal discourse, and one the Hollywood establishment is in almost total agreement on is the war in Iraq and the opposition to the ongoing war. Yet, there was only one show on TV that tackled that issue head on this year. In that show, the suicide bombers were the GOOD guys, and those maintaining the occupation of the bombers' territory were the BAD guys. The show's episodes that dealt with this occupation were clearly meant to be a mirror for Iraq, and this made for the most interesting political drama of the year. I'm not the only one saying this either. This has also been recognized by NPR, various newspapers, and critics as such.

By the way, the show I am referring to is BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!!

This is the best show on television in terms of writing, dramtic content, and acting. It not only should have been nominated for best dramatic series, it should be the one accepting the trophy on awards night.

By the way, you mentioned Emmy snubs. To me, the biggest snub of the year besides Battlestar, and one you didn't mention, was Katee Sackhoff for best supporting actress. Her performance in the Battlestar episode "Maelstrom" alone should have earned her a nomination, and that's not even bringing into account her oustanding performance in other episodes this season. Katee Sackhoff should be held up as a role model for actresses in terms of her ability to take a dramatic storyline and make it even more powerful through her performance, and to do so in a role that would not be considered traditional for female actresses.

But once again, Hollywood showed its prejudices, and did not nominate the show for any major category. I guess they are too snooty to have a series called Battlestar Galactica in their awards show, and thus confirmed how everything in Hollywood seems to be about image, not substance.

Some great surprises: Kevin Dillon is riotous in "Entourage," and Minnie Driver superb in "The Riches." Is anyone watching that wonderful snarky series besides me & my wife? Eddie Izzard's omission as Best Actor may be the biggest faux pas of all! He was sensational!

Some other big snubs: The wonderful "Brotherhood" and its terrific actors (esp. Jason Isaacs & Finnoula Flanagan"); "Tudors" and Johnny Rhys-Meyeers & Sam Neill esp.; SVU's great Christopher Meloni who did superb work; "Dexter's" Michael C. Hall and the fine supporting cast; "Friday Night Lights"; and the male half of the cast in "Weeds"

How does The Tudors and Jonathan Rhys Meyers get left off of the list - clearly it was the bast show of 2006/07. Sam Neil also got snubbed.

Great to see Robot Chicken on there and Rainn Wilson - both supremely funny and overlooked. They both deserve the recognition.

I assume most of you guys haven't actually watched Boston Legal because it's better than most of the shows you are calling snubs AND than some of the shows actually nominated. It's one of the best written and acted shows on TV but because it's not a show that has a series-long storyline or isn't some gritty or sci-fi or action you guys just dismiss it.

Weeds should have been nominated for Best Comedy. It's funnier than Two & 1/2 Men.

first of all, why do people keep calling it "Boston Public"? It's "Boston Legal." Sure, they're set in the same city and their titles begin with that name, but one show is about high school while the other show is about law. Oh yeah, and Boston Public is cancelled. So please stop confusing the two.

secondly, however bad everyone thinks "24" was this season, I still love have made love for that show. I've been hooked on every single episode since the series debuted in 2001, and this season was no different for me, I would have loved to see it nominated for outstanding drama again.

I really wish "The Black Donnellys" got a nomination. I know that emmy noms aren't usually given to shows that get pulled off the air before the full season is even finished, but it would still be nice to give that show the credit it deserved. hey, if NBC can't recognize a good show when they've got it, then it should be up to the nomination committee to do so. besides, an emmy nom might have helped resurrect the show for another season on a different channel that would treat it right.

I love "Heroes" also. sure, it's cheesy at times, but I'm a sucker for sci-fi. I just really wish that the show wasn't pinned up against "24." Putting two hit shows in the same time slot makes it really difficult for viewers like me to watch them both. I have to TIVO one of them while watching the other. can you guess which one I watch first? yep, 24. I'm so anxious for it to come on each week, so there's no way I could wait another hour to watch it.

so why wasn't "The Closer" nominated this year? if it's really does hold the highest record for most watched cable drama in the history of television, then shouldn't it receive an emmy nomination?

Boston Legal? Seriously? Lost should've gotten that nomination, I mean, when was the last time anybody you know came up to you, "oh I gotta go home, I got catch Boston Legal?" The snubs for me this year are Eva Longoria (maybe, she's too hot for them), Teri Hatcher (ditto), Marcia Cross (maybe because she didn't do much at the end of the season), Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey (again, maybe they're too pretty). Also, Maura Tierney of ER should get a nomination once in awhile, she has some stellar performances when they focus an episode around her and yes ER is still on.I think it's interesting that none of the actors from any of CBS' procedural crime dramas got any nominations. Anne Heche would've made a very surprising pick too but far be it for the Emmy guys to recognize a show like Men In Trees. A couple more actors from Brothers and Sisters should've gotten nods too, namely Ally McBeal and Matthew Rhys. So to all Emmy voters, please, Boston Legal is not hip anymore, or it probably never was.

The biggest snub to me, a culmination of 7 years of snubs, is for Lauren Graham. The dialog she has had to spit out for 150+ episodes is absolutely insane and no one has ever recognized her properly. Hell, Gilmore Girls has always had great writing and it only ever received one nomination, for makeup, in its entire run.

And with the departure of Sherman-Palladino/Palladino at the end of season 6, it really showed how good an actress she is without the great writing.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Dexter/Michael C. Hall is the biggest snub after that, IMO. Perhaps BSG will finally get its due in its final season next year.

The lack of recognition for Friday Night Lights is truly disappointing. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton gave the most impressive performances of the year and should have both been guaranteed a slot. I fear that the new bosses at NBC will now abandon this show as it struggles to complete its second season.

While the Sopranos has proven itself to be historic television, it has also been widely uneven through many seasons and James Gandolfini and Edie Falco have been on autopilot for many episodes. Its almost like the nominating committee is afraid it too will be "whacked" or look foolish if they reject the show in any way.

Anyway, I'm sure that same people who have won previously will win again this year. America Ferrara will probably win her first Emmy this season (deservedly so) and then go on to win every year until she herself says stop.

That's the Emmy way!

No nomination for Prison Break and no nomination for William Fichtner!! what gives?? William Fichtner has lifted the whole tone of the series since his character's debut.

Where is Matthew Fox? His performance in "Through the Looking Glass" was the best in a long long time. Where is Michael C. Hall? I guess killing people who deserved to be killed doesn't cut it.
Where is "Battlestar" and "Lost" ugh I hate the emmy voters

Not nominating Michael C Hall is an insult to television viewers. The other whiners I could care less about. Your arguments dont register as having any merit.

Boston Public... seriously... that's just insane.

I'd go on and on about it, but it would be a waste of my time... I just can't believe it...

ugh.

What's up with no nomination for Lost? I have never seen an episode of The Soranos and I don't intend to until they give The Wire some love.

I'd nominate Battlestar Galactica over the inconsistent, and frankly badly acted, Heroes any day. Even though I do enjoy Heroes it's not really one of the Top 5 dramas on TV.

I don't really watch comedies, but I do watch Entourage!

I loved Friday Night Lights and was happy it was picked up again notwithstanding the poor viewing night it got (Friday Night!!, LOL). I think it should have been nominated.

But what about "The Black Donnellys?" I'm glad they posted the unaired episodes to the web. It deserved a nomination

"Studio 60" had much potential but got too soapy to deserve a nomination. Either the network interfered with the writers or the writers ran out of ideas and/or lost interest in the project and just focused on "relationships." Boring.

"Boston Legal" as a best drama series contender was a surprise but it does boast some great performances by James Spader and William Shatner who are deservedly nominated as Lead Actor and Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. I am saddened that Candice Bergen opted to sit this year out. Snubs for Michael C. Hall for "Dexter" and Tichina Arnold for "Everybody Hates Chris" are downright criminal. Leah Remini was never nominated as Lead Actress for "King of Queens". It was would have been nice to send her and Kevin James and off with some Emmy recognition. They both submitted the series finale and both were superb.

No Wire, No Peace!

The Wire got snubbed again, go figure. I've lost all hope in the Emmys. The Wire is easily the most intelligent and compelling TV show in the last 30 years, if not ever.

I am surprised at a few of the snubs (Micheal C. Hall in particular) but let me say that I am THRILLED that I will enver again have to read about The Gilmore Girls being overlooked. Gone, No nominations. Forgetten. Move on...

What about the Riches for best Drama Series? I thought that was one of the best new shows and one of the best shows on TV. At least Minnie Driver got nominated.

Am I the only one who likes "Boston Legal"? While I will say that I too was quite surprized by its inclusion on the list, I think its great. True, the show can be too quirky sometimes, but it is a very well crafted show. Very watchable and entertaining. It balances the humor and drama beautifully. No doubt its humor must have helped during the screenings.

My Picks:

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Alec Baldwin, "30 Rock"

Lead Actor in a Drama Series
James Gandolfini, "The Sopranos"

Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie
Matthew Perry, "The Ron Clark Story"

Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Tina Fey, "30 Rock"

Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Edie Falco, "The Sopranos"

Lead Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie
Helen Mirren, "Prime Suspect: The Final Act"

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Rainn Wilson, "The Office"

Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
T.R. Knight, "Grey's Anatomy,"

Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie
Thomas Haden Church, "Broken Trail,"

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Jaime Pressly, "My Name Is Earl,"

Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Chandra Wilson, "Grey's Anatomy,"

Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie
Judy Davis, "The Starter Wife,"

Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
Giovanni Ribisi, "My Name Is Earl,"

Guest Actor in a Drama Series
John Goodman, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,"

Guest Actress in a Comedy Series
Elaine Stritch, "30 Rock,"

Guest Actress in a Drama Series
Kate Burton, "Grey's Anatomy,"

I get that it's not "cool" to like Studio 60 anymore, but some of the people involved in that, hell, most of them, were ridiculously talented. No nom for Sorkin, Perry or Whitford is fairly asinine,

Boston Legal makes it into the Top 5 for Best Drama over Lost, Friday Night Lights, and Dexter? What was the Nominating Committee smoking when they made *that* choice?
