Open up wide & swallow, Oscar — 'Blueberry' reheated

August 2, 2007 |  9:26 pm

"Stick a fork in 'Blueberry' — it's done," another Oscar pundit told me yesterday, referring to "My Blueberry Nights" as we dished titles in the Oscar derby. Everyone's taking it off the table following the sour reception it received in Cannes where it arrived with lofty expectations.

Hopes ran so high because it not only has hyperchic director Kar Wai Wong ("2046") behind it, but also, egads, Oscar-mad Harvey Weinstein as distributor.

"It's back in the editing room, being recut," reports an inside source. "No, Harvey's not doing the cutting" — as he is notoriously wont to do — "the director is. Look, the movie is really good. It just got a bum rap at Cannes because it's too damn long. Kar's already cut out a good 15 minutes. There's more to go."

Below is pic of "Blueberry" star Norah Jones — yes, the songbird of Grammy-sweeping fame — with Natalie Portman as one of many quirky characters she encounters on a road trip across America.
