Why doesn't SAG bestow awards for daytime TV?

A poster in our message boards asks an intriguing question: Why doesn't the Screen Actors Guild dole out awards for actors in daytime soaps? Are they just too snooty, can't lower themselves to give out the equivalent to the Daytime Emmys? Hmmmm. They give out awards equivalent to the Primetime Emmys and Oscars, why not Daytime Emmys too? So I asked a spokesperson for SAG to fill us in.
"Screen Actors Guild contracts do not cover daytime television," she notes. "AFTRA is the union that has jurisdiction over daytime television. The SAG Awards honor performances in film and primetime television."

I was looking around IMDB the other day and noticed that General Hospital had a Gloden Globe nomination so I clicked to see what it was and Emily McLaughlin who played Jessie Brewer was nominated for A Golden Globe in the 1970ish for Best Actress in a Drama. So it looks like at one point they did include or think about including Daytimers.

That's pretty much what i thought; but the real questions then become: 1) why doesn't AFTRA produce an awards show to honor daytime TV? and also why doesn't the Golden Globes honor daytime television? i assume the issue w/the golden globes is that the forgeing press probrally isn't aware of Daytime shows as i assume not all daytime shows air overseas.
