I agree, the Brandon Teena character in BOYS DONT CRY was not gay, he was a transgender woman.

But didn't Brandon Teena associate himself as being male? He wasn't gay at all.

Like the other two posts say, including Virginia Wolff and Brandon Teena on this list shows a shocking level of ignorance. Suggesting that a person who is transgender completely misunderstands transgenderism, and saying that every person who has one same-sex (as Wolff does in The Hours) is gay would make a the percentage of gays skyrocket.

Shame on The Envelope for getting this so wrong. I certainly hope that you will change or remove this quiz for one that isn't inaccurate and does perpetuate misinformation and ignorance.

Though there are historical pieces to suggest that Virginia Woolf had homosexual tendencies, I don't think she should be included on this list. She kissed her sister in "The Hours," and no one else.

Hilary Swank wasn't gay. She was transgendered. In her understanding of herself, she was a man, and thus, any sexual activity with Lana Tisdale (Chloe Sevigny) was heterosexual, not homosexual.
