Dan Rather's topless Emmy sells for $2,499!

December 24, 2007 | 10:27 pm

The last time I asked Dan Rather how many news Emmys he's won, he didn't know. The National RatheremmyAcademy of Television Arts & Sciences doesn't know either because it doesn't bother to maintain a searchable database of past winners like all other top award groups do. In Rather's case, he's won so many that it's easy to lose count — somewhere south of 20 but north of 10 is my best guess. But lately he has one less, whether he knows it or not. (Often these things get lifted.) One of his Emmys — a most curious one — just sold on Ebay for $2,499, an excellent price considering TV's Golden Girl is missing the spinning electron she holds aloft. (It's not a globe, as noted in the Ebay listing.) I don't know how to reach Rather these days since he's no longer at CBS. If you do, please send him this link — CLICK HERE
