My fearless, peerless, 100% accurate Golden Globe predictions

December 11, 2007 | 12:39 pm

Daring to forecast the unpredictable Golden Globes is much like cliffdiving, which should always be done with a bit of bravado. While preparing this list, I've powwowed with lots of showbiz insiders and sources close to members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, so many of these are not blind calls. WOW TOM!! you predicted Across the Universe. Totally didn't see that coming...nice catch.

Across the Universe! You have to be kidding. A serious contender for worst film of the year. And no best score nomination for There Will be Blood? Crazy. It's one of the best scores of the past decade. These guys are idiots.

yeah i agree

Where the hell are the accolades for the best movie of the year, Into The Wild??? Hal Holbrook for Best Supporting, Catherine Keener for Best Supporting and Emile Hershe for Best Actor and Sean Penn for Director. Plus the divine Eddie Vedder for soundtrack!

I also thought Josh Brolin was great in No Country for Old Men and in American Gangster. Wonder if he will get a nod. I like the rest of your predictions.

what about emile hirsch for into the wild

Tom, your predictions for Lead Actress TV Comedy are so off. Have you even watched Desperate Housewives this season? If you have, you would see that Marcia Cross has been more impressive than Felicity Huffman this season.

Marcia Cross deserves to be on this list over Huffman without a doubt. Marcia has had a fine return to form in season 4 and has much lighter stuff to work with that has been a hell of a lot more enjoyable than the baity cancer storyline that Lynette has had.

I would even go as far as to put Teri next in line before Felicity

Award shows need to wake up and realize that there are other talented actresses on DH besides Felicity Huffman. At this point this is getting ridiculous.

But this is the Golden Globes - a big popularity contest so I expect a bunch of crap nominees while more deserving actresses get left off the ballot.

Not George Clooney again! He already won his award. I'm really rooting for Viggo ~ Hope he wins! Also think Keri Russell deserves recognition for the movie Waitress, along with Adrienne Shelly. Oh, and I just noticed Hal Holbrook is missing from the Best Supporting Actor category ~ I thought for sure he would be nominated.

What, no "Heroes" for best TV drama?

Tom, last year they had six in each category. They may do the same this year. Allowing Laura Linney in "The Savages" to place in Comedy, where they unfortunately put it...She'd win in Drama.

I think that Desperate Housewives will make it into Best Comedy/Musical, and I also think that a second Housewife (likely Cross) will get a nod for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical. The Globes are always kinder to DH than the other awards shows are, and this year many have noticed the stellar season the show has been having.

You are forgetting Golden Globe Golden Girl Nicole Kidman for Margot at the Wedding.

It's ridiculous that Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria keep getting overlooked. Felicity Huffman is not the only good actress on that show.

I love your predictions, I do think they are solid and also in tune with the Golden Globes. Cate Blanchett will win Best Supporting Actress and may very well be a heavy contender for Best Actress, there were several scenes in Elizabeth where the depth and passion in her acting was just superb.
Also, I must say that even though Grey's Anatomy has lost a little steam it still has a great ensemble cast and Chandra Wilson is still as great as ever and deserves a nod, and I feel that Sandra Oh has been overlooked as well, but Glenn Close may have that one in the bag.
Also, I think that Juno is a HEAVY contender this year in every category.

What are your thoughts about Best Score??

I agree with all specially for BEST ACTRESS,I can see JODIE FOSTER there, she gave the most sincere female performace of the year in The Brave One.She deserves this nomination!

Persepolis will be nominated for Best Foreign Lanhuage Film.
Laura Linney has more chances than Carter or Blonsky.
Across The Universe will not be nominated for anything. That prediction is just a wishful thinking.
Russell Crowe for AG would be a joke.
Charlie Wilson's War and Tom Hanks will be nominated in the comedy or musical categories.

Are you sure that they won't nominate Desperate Housewives?

What about Tina Fey for 30 Rock? She did start out rough during the 1st half of season 1 but she has been on fire in season 2. Definitely more comedic than any of the housewives in DH

You put way too much faith in the fact that the Globes will skew pretentious in the drama category. This is the awards show that snubbed the West Wing and the Sopranos. My guess would be Lost, House, Grey's, Dexter and Damages.

You all can't think of the Golden Globes as being the Emmys. They vote on what's new and cool...not often on "old" shows like Lost.

Also, no pic nom for Charlie Wilson's War? Even though it's up for comedy? I find that hard to believe.

Great Debaters??? Now, I remember Tom predicting "Antwonee Fisher" a few years back and that wiped out at the Globes. My bet is that this does the same.

Good year to skip Into The Wild was great and the rest please.

Best Picture Drama is solid, although not entirely sure about The Great Debaters. But last year they nominated Bobby, for Christ's sake, and it got a SAG ensemble nod too. I don't think Russell Crowe will be nominated for best actor drama. Substitute him for James McAvoy (surely he'll finally get some attention). I don't think The Savages will be completely snubbed, because they did honor The Squid and the Whale with picture, actor, and actress noms. I'm hoping Jolie will pull up an upset and beat Christie in the lead actress drama category. But that's probably not going to happen.

Coming from someone who's never been a fan til now, Desperate Housewives is high caliber ensemble comedy. It's absolutely on fire this season. No cast member overshadows anyone, it's that solid. Marcia Cross certainly deserves a nomination. The should be a competitor at the Globes. The writing has been very tight.
