Our Globe Buzzmeter champs: Dave Karger and me

The wins by "Atonement" and "Sweeney Todd" as best pictures at the Golden Globes came as a surprise to many in Hollywood, including most of the members of our Buzzmeter panel. Of the 22 pundits surveyed, only Dave Karger, chief Oscarologist for Entertainment Weekly, and myself went six for six with Buzzmeter_results1our predictions. Getting five right were USA Today's Claudia Puig, Steve Pond, and Sasha Stone of AwardsDaily.com.

Those who foresaw four of the winners were Pete Hammond (The Envelope), Gregory Ellwood (MSN Movies), Anthony Breznican (USA Today), Scott Feinberg (And The Winner Is), Kris Tapley (In Contention), Susan Wloszczyna (USA Today), and Thelma Adams (US Weekly).

Overall, the pundits got 81 of their 110 predictions correct for a combined score of 74%. Only five of us had "Atonement" as the best picture (drama), with almost all the rest opting for "No Country for Old Men," and a lucky seven of us saw "Sweeney Todd" winning while everyone else thought "Juno" would prevail.

The general consensus about the four lead acting awards matched up with the winners. All but one pundit predicted Julie Christie as best actress (drama) for "Away From Her," 19 forecast "There Will Be Blood" star Daniel Day-Lewis as best actor (drama), 16 saw Johnny Depp taking best actor (comedy/musical) for "Sweeney Todd," and 12 thought Marion Cotillard would win for best actress (comedy/musical).
