Oscars' foreign list snubs '4 Days' and 'Persepolis'
The academy has announced the nine finalists for best foreign-language film: "The Counterfeiters" (Austria), "The Year My Parents Went on Vacation" (Brazil), "Days of Darkness" (Canada), "Beaufort" (Israel), "The Unknown" (Italy), "Mongol" (Kazakhstan), "Katyn" (Poland), "12" (Russia) and "The Trap" (Serbia). Surprisingly missing from the list is "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days," winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and the European Film Award for best picture. Missing, too, is critically hailed "Persepolis," which won a jury prize at Cannes and was voted best animated film by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and New York Film Critics Circle.
Also snubbed: Germany's "Edge of Heaven," which won screenplay awards at Cannes and the European Film Awards where it was a top contender for best picture, and Spain's "The Orphanage," an artsy horror pic popular with critics that leads with the most Goya nominations.

No big loss with "The Orphanage". That movie is butt.

When it comes to the Foreign Language film category..AMPAS always gets it wrong...they are sooooo clueless, the rules need to be completely revamped...they're too many good films which are snubbed year after year because of such insane rules AMPAS implements...

This list is just embarrassing. First we had some high profile disqualifications. And now we get a list without "4 Months", "Persepolis", "Edge of Heaven" OR "The Orphanage"?! This is insanity.
Clearly, last year's great group was an aberration. Someone needs to fix this system NOW.
