The Golden Globes swing back: Ouch!
Beating up on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is a favorite pastime of arrogant Yankee journos — a disgusting ritual that reveals how petty the American media can be while expressing obvious jealously of the success
achieved by the HFPA's Golden Globes. Foremost among the bashers has always been Sharon Waxman, who recently ambushed the group again, this time in an op-ed piece in the L.A. Times, calling the Globes "the entertainment industry's dirty little secret," adding, "At the heart of the con is the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., the tiny, cliquish group of foreign entertainment journalists — and I use each of those terms liberally — whose votes determine the winners." The funniest: noting that Waxman, who frequently ridicules some HFPA members for being part-timers, is now "outlet-less." (She's no longer on staff with the Washington Post or New York Times).
Goodridge also notes that HFPA members are widely slammed for attending press junkets, which they do at their own expense. Compare that to many U.S. journos, whose expenses are paid by the film studios. Etc., etc. It's a well-argued article that should be widely read. READ MORE.
