How to buy Clooney for less than a buck

January 29, 2008 |  9:39 am

The ups and downs of the Dow are nothing compared to the rollercoaster ride of the Awards Options at the Hollywood Stock Exchange. From their original price of $5.00, individual options for the nominees in the top eight categories rise and fall with demand. With the ultimate winner worth $25.00 and the losers nothing, the trading is fast and fierce.

As of this posting (10:00 am PST), it costs $12.02 to buy one option for best pic frontrunner "No Country for Old Men" while "Michael Clayton" can be had for a mere $1.49. One option for either Daniel Day-Lewis or Javier Bardem costs more than their four competitors combined while Julie Christie is the only actress to break the $10 barrier. The supporting actress race has seen the most activity with Ruby Dee coming on strong after her surprise SAG victory Sunday.
