Who the Oscars snubbed: 'Wild,' Penn, Jolie . . .
Apparently, the Oscars aren't expecting lots of superstars at their February 24th show. When issuing nominees, they didn't invite quite a few, including Denzel Washington, Angelina Jolie and Sean Penn (who could've been nomm'd for director or screenplay). Here's a list of major snubbees.

It won't bother me if the strike drags on - looking over the nomination list, I could care less who wins. And I've been a die-hard Oscar fan since I was a kid.

"Atonement" was nominated to 7 Academy Awards, but there was not enough love for it. If they wanted to nominate "Atonement", as they did, they should have nominated his brilliant dircetor too. A movie like that one, which is pure art, has a great director behind, and Joe Wright is one of a kind.
The opposite problem happens with "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly". They could give a nomination to Schnabel, but they could not see that he is not only an "auteur", but the director of a masterpiece. A masterpiece should be in the top five.
Amy Adams was the star of 2007. She is an enchanting creauture, a lovely woman and an excellent actress...charming, quite charming. They can nominate male actors for any role (Johnny Depp - "Pirates of the Caribbean"), but they can do the same for the ladies. She gave the real best comedic performance of the year, and she sang her own songs with her beautiful voice.

You apparently jinxed Sweeney Todd, Tom, with your early predictions that it would sweep the nominations board.

Atonement should have been recoginzed with more acting nods and especially a directing nod for Wright.

the biggest snub is sweeny todd...some people said the academy doesn't like it because of the blood..oh come on! There's less in No Country? The Departed? Godfather? and Burton's directionw as impeccable...

why all the press about who got snubbed
how many nominees do you want? should the academy have more than five top . should the academy revamp? it seems no one is happy in tinsletown as oscar season arrives.

One glaring (but, sadly, generally expected) snub missing from your list: the wonderful Max von Sydow in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. And Mathieu Amalric, for that matter.
(Sigh) In most other years...

And Michelle Pfeiffer! I know no one was expecting it, but she had a great year and at least deserved the you're-a-star-we-love Golden Globe nomination over Julia Roberts.
