Cotillard: No real shocker

February 24, 2008 |  8:25 pm

Not if you remember that six of the last 10 winners of best actress were first-time nominees like Hilary Swank ("Boys Don't Cry") and Charlize Theron ("Monster"). Also, remember, only two women past the age of 50 have won Oscars in the last 15 years: Helen Mirren ("The Queen") and Judi Dench ("Shakespeare in Love"). Cotillard is 32 years old, Julie Christie 66. Also she portrays a real person, just like four of the last five winners in this race. Lastly, doesn't she remind you of another "surprise" winner with a French accent — Juliette Binoche ("The English Patient")? Didn't you love her acceptance speech about there being real angels in Los Angeles? Wow! And in a French accent! Ou-la-la!

Do I detect sarcasm there Tom? Well, I'm acquainted with your Babe Factor theory, however, isn't she like the second actress ever to win that Oscar for a foreign language movie, along with Sophia Loren as well as being the second or third french actress to ever win one?

I heard her while getting interviewed earlier and I didn't notice a heavy accent, Obviously when her name was annouced she was shocked and at a loss for words.

NO IT WAS ALL FOR COTILLARD, she was GREAT AS EDITH, SOO ELLEN NEEDS THE BACKSEAT THIS YEAR, OKAY SHE WAS IN A SUB-PAR LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!

Sorry, Tom, but it should have been Ellen Page's year.
