'Elizabeth' reigns

February 24, 2008 |  5:57 pm

Admit it: The first thing that crossed your mind when "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" just won best costumes was what happened last year. Again, it went to a critically lambasted movie about a queen ("Marie Antoinette") that had fab costumes! Well, the good news is that cynical pundits are wrong: Academy members do watch their screeners. Or maybe not (how could they honestly vote for it then?). At least they're seeing the ads in Variety and The Envelope's print section.
