Murray Weissman: Man behind the Oscar curtain

February 22, 2008 | 10:08 am

Scroll down the options in the menu on the right HERE for the video tagged Murray"For Your Consideration" to meet Murray Weissman, one of the deans of Oscar campaigning. He emerged as a major force in the late 1980s with partner Tony Angelotti consulting for Harvey Weinstein on ballyhoo for "My Left Foot," "The Piano" and "The Crying Game." Most recently, he was a key consultant behind the "Crash" upset for best picture in 2005, being the person who cooked up the idea of having that film be the first to blitz the full 100,000 membership of SAG with DVD screeners, a key element of its success.

Many alumni of the original Weissman-Angelotti Company have gone on to launch Oscar consulting firms of their own that are leading players in the field today or else they work at studios as in-house award gurus.
