Surprise: Deidre Hall on Daytime Emmys' pre-noms list

February 23, 2008 |  7:00 am

The Daytime Emmy pre-noms list has been officially released. Biggest surprise: the inclusion of poor, Emmy-less Deidre Hall of "Days of Our Lives," one of the queens of daytime TV who hasn't been nominated in eons.

Hall recently told Nelson Branco of TV Guide Canada that she wouldn't even bother to submit her name for consideration anymore because "the system was a numbers game," but, Branco reports, "Perhaps, co-executive producer Ed Scott managed to convince the beauty to change her mind because Hall has the best chance in her cast of earning a nod due to her star power and sensational performance this past year as Marlena dealt with the 'death' of John Black.

"As for glaring omissions," he adds, "GL’s Beth Ehlers [Harley] and Y&R’s Joshua Morrow [Nick] are suspiciously absent, as is GH’s Kelly Monaco [Sam], B&B’s Eileen Davidson [Ashley] and Alley Mills [Pam]." READ MORE.

Other Daytime Emmy news: a new category has been added for "Judge Judy" and other courtroom shows. Appropriately enough, Emmy judges will decide all phases of consideration, including nominations, which are sometimes determined by a popular balloting of academy members in other categories. In the acting races, individual drama series submits three cast members' names for consideration in each race, then judges view reels submitted by contenders as examples of their best work. That number is up from two entries per category per show last year.

"And the envelopes, please: TV Guide Canada is proud to announce our first annual Soap Opera Spirit Award winners," Branco says. "Not too surprisingly, comeback soap, 'One Life to Live' swept the awards with seven well-deserved wins, while 'The Bold and the Beautiful' trailed with four trophies."

She so deserves to win! But what she has said is true... only one show on NBC, and numbers are against it. Maybe others will take notice!

After Deidre's brilliant performances over the years, not to mention her stunning performance during and after John's "death" last year, she more than deserves both the Emmy nod AND the win this year. Will she get it? I seriously doubt it; it sadly IS all about numbers and politics. SHOULD she get it? Without a doubt. I know I'm not the only one rooting for Deidre to finally get the Emmy she so greatly deserves. She IS the true queen of daytime for a reason.

If these award shows are for real, then Deidre will win in a LANDSLIDE, but I believe they are staged, so she won't stand a chance ... SO UNFAIR

I personally think that Deidre did some outstanding work this year and definitely deserves an emmy. I know I am rooting for her!

Deidre deserves that Emmy more than anyone. I hope she wins!

I hope Deidre wins, she deserves it!!!

Well, she's on Days Of Our Lives, but yes, it is a nice surprise to see her on the pre-noms list. If there's any fairness, she'll be nominated AND win, but I agree with what she said in the TV Guide Canada interview, and it's all so political.

Ummm...Ms Hall is on Days of Our Lives, not Guiding Light.
