TV Guide's Matt Roush: Sorry, 'Big Bang' is an Emmy bust
TV Guide chief critic Matt Roush answers viewer mail twice a week in an always dishy online column. This week he analyzes the Emmy chances of two of CBS' Monday night comedies: freshman laffer
"The Big Bang Theory" and sophomore sitcom "The New Adventures of Old Christine."
Roush, one of our original Gold Derby pundits, does not hold out much hope for an Emmy nod for "Bang's" Jim Parsons, who "is without doubt doing inspired work as Sheldon, one of the most exasperating and hilarious fussbudgets since Felix Unger, and it would be very cool if the Emmys took notice. But you'd have to consider him, for now, a dark horse because the show is new, he's new to the scene himself and the field is crowded with longtime nominees who are shoo-ins for nomination."
As for "Christine," Roush thinks that "this well-made, well-cast, 'traditional' sitcom which unfortunately isn't the flavor of the media moment, is why (outside of the star) it may struggle in the Emmy nominations, although Wanda Sykes is a riot and well-known enough to have a shot."

Yeah, I thought "Big Bang" was doing very well. It's that why they gave it 8 PM because HIMYM wasn't a good enough lead-in. Also, I think with all the acting noms, it's gonna be hard for anyone new to break into those acting slots. They may all be 6 nominees this year that's how many people are worthy.

First of all, The Big Bang Theory is not as low rated as you think. It got 8.7 million viewers this week. That is pretty good for an 8:00 show, and it is opposite Dancing Witht The Stars. Ratings do not mean that much for Emmys. 30 Rock won the best show last season, and it is one of the lowest rated sitcoms on TV.
Jim Parsons deserves and Emmy nomination.
