Take a peek inside HBO's Emmy box
The Emmy campaign box sent by HBO to the 14,000 members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences last week is fairly sedate: basic, elegant black. That's the opposite of the decorated white box sent out last year (see HERE). As usual, it's packed like a TV treasure chest. There are two binders filled with sleeves containing DVDs. The contents of both are noted below, the discs listed in the order they appear inside.
Missing from the box are the "John Adams" miniseries unspooling now on HBO and the "Recount" telefilm that debuts next month. Both will be shipped to Emmy voters in late April.

Mr. O'neil,
You know, times have changed. There are so many networks, with so many shows, with so many cancellations, and then so many time-slot changes. This year, the writers strike made the T.V. season even more confusing.
I long for the days when the T.V. season began in September and ended in May and it was 3 networks, PBS and FOX that dominated the Emmy nominations. You had a gist of who "most" of the nominees were.
The problem was, back in those days the same people win in the same categories year after year.
Oh well, life can be a bitch sometimes, huh?.

JOHN ADAMS is going to massacre at the Emmys. It's the next ANGELS IN AMERICA. Nobody can touch HBO in this realm yet. Showtime is nipping at their heels as far as series go, but that's it.

Straight man Kevin Connolly will perpetually have trouble winning for best actor in a comedy. He is overshadowed by the more over the top characters played by Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven. Similiarly, Adrian Grenier is incorrectly perceived as playing himself, although that is far from the truth. I think both gents would just be happy with a nomination at this point, but we shouldn't hold our breathe.
