No auction bidders for the first Irving Thalberg Award!

April 1, 2008 |  4:58 pm

At a showbiz auction last week by ProfilesInHistory.com, a rare movie poster of "King Kong" fetched far more money than expected ($345,000 compared to early estimates ranging from $200,000 to $250,000), but there were no bidders for the first-ever Irving Thalberg Award.

The statuette bestowed in 1938 to Darryl F. Zanuck by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts  & Sciences was withdrawn from the block when it failed to reap its minimum expectation of $150,000. (SEE HERE.)

Ah, well, maybe the price was set just a tad too high. Stanley Kramer's Irving Thalberg Award goes up for sale this Saturday at Ebay Live Auctions/Heritage Auctions, where it's expected to bring $48,000 to $72,000. Minimum is only $29,000. Three bids already have been placed. (SEE HERE)

If you're looking to purchase a showbiz award that's much cheaper this Saturday, you can snatch up for a relative bargain the Tony Award that "Fiddler on the Roof" won as best Broadway revival of 1991. It's expected to reap $4,000.00 to $6,000.00. (SEE HERE)
