Outrage! Reality TV wins its first Peabody Award
"30 Rock" followed up on its recent victories at the Emmys, Golden Globes and SAG kudos by claiming a Peabody Award. Lots of other obvious quality TV also shared in the 35 wins, including "The Colbert Report" (its predecessor, "The Daily Show," is a past winner), newbie "Mad Men" and the much admired "Planet Earth." Among the big surprises, it wasn't Showtime's gutsy series about a serial killer, "Dexter," that had everyone screaming. It was "Project Runway," which became the first-ever reality TV show to win a Peabody.
One of our forum posters, PaulHan, was furious over its victory, denouncing all reality TV as "a plague, a cancer that is slowly putting scripted TV down for the count. . . . Reality television sucks. All of it. There are no exceptions . . . What's next, 'The Hills' winning in 2009 for their stellar Heidi-Spencer storyline? 'America's Next Top Model'? 'The Moment of Truth'? 'My Dad is Better than Your Dad'? The possibilities are endless. It's bad enough s**t like 'Idol' and 'Dancing with the Stars' are popular, but to give a Peabody to a reality show only legitimizes the whole genre. Sorry, but this blows chunks."
However, our poster Dannyboy rallied to the program's defense: "'Project Runway' is far and away the best reality show on television. I fully support its winning a Peabody. It puts all the other crappy reality shows to shame."

I watched project runway and it offers nothing new that other reality tv show have offered before them. It's just cameras in front of people acting like idiots, why should this get an award?
