'The Hours' was the longest day of my life

Hours

Tell me Stephen Daldry is kidding. Please! While promoting the Broadway run of the tuner version of the first film he directed -– "Billy Elliot" -– Daldry told New York Daily News theater critic Joe Dziemianowicz that there is talk afoot to turn his second feature, "The Hours, " into an opera.

As regular readers know, I am no fan of this big-screen adaptation of Michael Cunningham's novel that netted Nicole Kidman her best actress Oscar back in 2002. To think of this execrable film having a second life is almost too much to bear. Luckily, operas don't compete for theater awards like the Tonys, so I will be spared the misery of having to sit through hour after hour of "The Hours 2.0. "

The Hours was 2-thirds good--when Meryl and Julianne were on the screen. It as one-third terrible when Nicole was there with that nose. She got an Oscar for that?

Actually: The Hours was the best picture of 2002 (if you forget about The Pianist). And I am right.
