Can Olympian Kristi Yamaguchi bring 'Dancing with the Stars' Emmy gold?
Ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi is the first woman to win "Dancing With the Stars" since soap actress Kelly Monaco waltzed off with the title in the show's first season. While the series has been a ratings smash, it has yet to win much awards hardware. Perhaps Kristi Yamaguchi's Olympic gold medal can rub off on the show come time to dole out those Golden Girls at the primetime Emmys.
Two years ago, this celebrity dance contest took home two Emmy Awards –- outstanding costumes for a variety or music program and technical direction, camerawork, video for a series. Last year, the show was an Emmy wallflower, losing all eight of its bids.
Both years, this hit show lost the reality competition category to "The Amazing Race." That is not so surprising when you consider that the race around the world is a critical darling and has yet to lose this category since it was created five years ago.
The real shockeroo is that "Dancing With the Stars" has yet to win an Emmy for choreography. In 2006, "High School Musical" was the only winner. But last year, there was a three way tie –- "So You Think You Can Dance" took two Emmys and "Tony Bennett: An American Classic" also won –- with "Dancing With the Stars" the sole loser. Or is that sore loser?

It's not so incredible DWTS still hasn't won choreography. Have you ever seen SYTYCD? It just blows anything from the ballroom competition out of the water.

Of course it was expected from day one that Kristi would do well. She had dancing and ballet background. Her strength in figure skating was artistic impression. None of this was her doing. She was asked to participate. What disappointed me was that Dancing with the Stars took away the suspense when they picked a winner from the start! Clearly, they felt it was time for a female to take the "crown."... We viewers are not imbeciles. More of such tactics and I predict DWTS will lose some of their audience including me.
Did any of you find that Samantha shows way too much cleavage sometimes? Call me old fashion, but some of those dresses were down right indecent Shame on whoever picked her dresses. Women can be sexy with half of their breasts hanging out. Let's have her be elegant and tasteful.

i would like to see a show where you match up some of the stars that have appeared. match them as couples, have them compete, allow the professionals to coach. this would allow them to show their our skill not the pros.

The reason why Kristi won the gold
medal at the Olympics is because
she is a driven determined individual. She knows what hard
work and competition is all about.
How can you fault someone who
trains hard at everything she does.
She is very well deserving to have
won this dance competition.
People shouldn't be so quick to
judge because truly unless you
participate in one of these
competitions you don't know what
kind of rigorous training these
stars have to go through.

I think it will have a lot of competition for a choreography Emmy as long as "So You Think You Can Dance" is in the race. The choreography there is much more innovative. Not to mention much more difficult, thanks to the fact that *all* of them are real dancers, not celebrities trying to dance.

Kristi looked fabulous in her sexy ankle socks.,....
Congrats on the win...

Kristi had no more of a leg up than any of the other dancers on any of the seasons. If you've ever ice skated and danced, you know the two are COMPLETELY different. Kristi rocked because she worked hard and because she is talented!

Fair? Unfair? So what! Kristi Yamaguchi is the best dancer the show has ever had. And how naive can someone be to not see how the deck is stacked for men? Let's be honest - when those professional female dancers parade around half naked who looks at the guys?

The show needn't worry about awards. Its huge revenues for commercials tell the story. Right now it's such a hit it may outlast everything!

great job on winning kristi. and dont listen to other people because it is fair that you won. cause emit smith won and he played football. and he was able to run a lot faster in some of the dances. oh i mean dont listen to olivia and dont write back to her bacause of what she wrote!

How is it unfair that Kristi won after being in the Olympics? Apolo Anton Ohno was in the Olympics too, and no one was complaining when he won. The fact is, she was the best dancer and she deserved to win.

Unfair competition with Dancing with the Stars right from the beginning.
What's the big deal who wins, male or female, as long as they dance well.
Kristie is a dancer, looks like it was planned right from day one. Of course she's going to do well.

It's sad but i doubt any show can or will beat 'The Amazing Race"---even in seasons when the critics weren't kind to it (like the family edition) it still won.

The only thing that can bring Dancing with the Stars any Emmy gold is doing a full season with cast members from The Amazing Race.
