Sharon Stone's future Oscar film (cough! gag!) or next Razzie winner will not be shown much in China

Sharon Stone is making headlines again but not for one of her increasingly marginal movie roles. Rather her recent comments at the Cannes Film Festival speculating that karma was responsible for the devastating earthquake in China have prompted a backlash in China that is building in intensity.

Last Thursday she told Cable Entertainment News of Hong Kong, "I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans, because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else." After referencing her "good friend" the Dalai Lama, she noted that, "this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and then I thought, is that karma? When you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?"

Sharon Stone softened her remarks somewhat by adding that she had been asked to support a Tibetan charity that was launching a relief effort: "They wanted to go and be helpful, and that made me cry. It was a big lesson to me that sometimes you have to learn to put your head down and be of service even to people who aren’t nice to you."

The interview was played repeatedly on Chinese television and prompted much criticism of the opinionated actress. Now comes word via the Hollywood Reporter that Sharon Stone's films will no longer be shown by one of China's biggest chains of cinemas.

Of course, it is not like Stone has been making many movies of late that have been shown in even American cinemas. Her last leading role was in 2006 in "Basic Instinct 2" which cost $70 million to make and took in less than $6 million stateside. Pilloried by the critics, the sequel was certainly not the equal of the original 1992 film that launched her career. However, it did win Stone her last showbiz award –- a Razzie as worst actress of the year. None of the five films she has made since then have even opened.

How far Stone has fallen from her brief run of modest hits following the worldwide success of "Basic Instinct." She capped off her winning streak with a 1995 Oscar nod for best actress in Martin Scorsese's "Casino" opposite Robert DeNiro. She lost to Susan Sarandon for "Dead Man Walking."

Now 50, Stone is at a crossroads in her career. On May 2, it was announced that she had left WMA as she was "looking for a fresh perspective for her career." Perhaps she should look to TV to revive her flagging prospects. After all, she did win an Emmy Award in 2004 for her guest turn on "The Practice."

Sharon Stone would be well-advised to be mindful of the experience of Sally Kirkland — another blond beauty who scored an unexpected Oscar nod and then saw her career go nowhere fast. It was 20 years ago that Kirkland won the L.A. film critics prize as well as an Independent Spirit award for her work as a struggling actress in "Anna.".Since losing the Oscar to Cher ("Moonstruck"), life has imitated art for Kirkland, who is now best known for her outrageous outfits and off-the-wall comments on the red carpet.

I think losing some money is not a big deal for a woman. But being considered as an ugly and unsexy woman from the bottom of the hearts of over 1.3 billion Chinese people (including those who died in the earthquake) and their future generations, and losing their love and respect is the true Karma to Sharon Stone.

Sally Kirkland is a wonderful actress but doesn't get any breaks in Hollywood at all because she's not young like Jessica Alba. I love her and keep waiting for her to get her next Oscar nod each year. She's gonna make it I tell ya!

Her frontal lobe is made of tofu.

Katrina is a Karma for having such an idiot on America soil. -.-

I am pretty sure this woman will lose money because of her stupid comments. For example, Dior had removed all of her images from Beijing department stores. It's Karma.

Sharon Stone, even if she has never been of a very high intelligence, but as a mature, 50 year old mature woman, a mother, could have restrained herself saying something so utterly stupid and ignorant. "Karma" that killed thousands of innocent lives, school kids...?
Apparently, aging got her face all wrinkled and body sagged and all, but failed to make her brain any wiser… So pitiful!

Does she know that a lot of Tibetan people died in the quake? Like 30% of the death toll? Does she know the centre of the quake situated on several Tibetan self-rule districts? I guess it's Karma for the Tibetan rioters? It's like saying Hurrican Katrina and any natural disaster in USA happened because of their attack on Iraq. How does that feel now huh?

I'd just like to know how she figures the children that died there had caused harm to the Dalai Lama? Sent him bad Karma. This has to be the cruelest thing I've heard come out of one of these stars mouths. How's that Mensa School these days Sharon? Wait, there is no such thing. Still a member of Mensa?...Oh that's right you lied.

A lot of Hollywood people should not open their mouths without a script. When they do, though, it really reveals how idiotic and stupid these people truly are. They lack intelligence and common sense. Sharon Stone has no sense, intelligence, or logic. She is a dimwit like many other Hollywood celebrities. If you look into her head from one ear you will probably see straight out the other side through the other ear. There is nothing in between. Has she ever been to Xizang (Tibet)? Obviously not. She is just like all the other protesters who know nothing of the history or current environment of Xizang. She obviously has no knowledge about the people and region of Sichuan. If these dim witted Hollywood people are friends and associates of the Dalai Lama, then what does that say about the man himself?

what the best sharon stone can do is to open her legs, not her mouth.

Sharon Stone should be sent back school. Here is the first lesson she should learn :

9/11 was a man mad tragedy caused by political conflicts
5.12 was a nature disaster on a much bigger scale which had nothing to do with politics

She is a cold blooded animal anyway.

She sees natural disaster and death of more than 60,000 innocent people and massive destruction cities and villages as a form of revenge for Dalia Lama and Tibet monks.

She said she's a friend of yours, so dear Dalai Lama, what are you going to do with her? 1) Keep quiet about Sharon's statement to show you are OK with it? B) Denounce it to show you are not OK with it? C) Back Sharon to show you are a patriach leader so more will follow you?

This was said with some aforethought, just not much of it. America’s image did not need that kind of help.

You have no idea how stupid and ignorant a person can be! God!

From May 27, Canada's CBC 8pm "The Hour": George Joked:

The Dalai Lama's response to Sharon Stone's :" come on Sharon, we slept together only one night. We'r hardly friend"

Please, someone, shut this ignorant excuse for a human being, UP!!

As if this woman has any clue what karma actually is -

On the scale of "stupid people that should have their mouth taped shut", she is NUMBER 1!!!!

If there is such thing as Bad Karma, then Sharon Stone should be afraid when her turn comes around. Dalai Lama teaches other to forgive, not speak ill of others. This proves she is just a WANNA BE, not a true friend of Dalai Lama.

Sharon Stone: SHUT YOUR MOUTH UP BUT OPEN YOUR LEGS!!

She also said she feel interesting for the earth quake in China. It is coldblood of her to condemn innocent chinese people because she don't Chinese government. I don't think Dalai lama will agree with her. And by the way, Karma is not of good or bad, it is just about cause and consequence,

Ah, the perfect example of what happens when journos persist in allowing actors to expound (and expound and expound) on their opinions of world events and other sociopolitical topics.

Sharon, what you said was the height of "not nice". Karma's gonna getcha, dear.

Ridiculous logic ! I heard that she once got a high IQ score based on some test. I now truly believe that IQ tests can sure give out wrong score.

If those who died in the earthquake have ghosts, they will hunt Sharon Stone for what she said. Honestly I do not want to see her face anymore from anywhere, because it reminds me of her ugly heart and disgusts me.

I knew she was famous for nudity. Karma? She's definitely showing some brain here.

It's better off to just keep her mouth shut and legs open.
