When Beverlee McKinsey died of complications to a kidney transplant at age 72 last Friday, the
loss was all the more tragic considering the soap legend was never properly hailed by her peers.
Beverlee McKinsey was never even nominated for an Emmy for her role as Martha Donnelly on "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" or as Alexandra Spaulding on "The Guiding Light." She was nominated four consecutive times between 1977-1980 as Iris Carrington on "Another World, " but lost. Read more at WeLoveSoaps blog.

Geraldo commented once that the Daytime Emmys were a joke and a popularity contest.
The fact that Miss McKinsey never won an Emmy nor was she ever nominated for her role as Alexandra Spaulding makes Geraldo's comment plausible.
In the year 1991, Miss McKinsey allowed her name to be submitted for possible nomination but was NOT recognized. How tragic and shameful.

Beverlee McKinsey was absolutely stellar as Iris Carrington Cory. What a wonderful actress! She was a real professional and amazing to watch. Rest in Peace, Beverlee. The respect and admiration that your fans have for you far outshadows the lack of an emmy. You have earned a million emmies in our hearts!

The fact she was never a winner at the emmys is one of the biggest tragedy's of the emmy system.

She was one of the great actresses alive! I was a fan of hers from Day one even before she was a smash hit on Another World! Sally :-(

Thank you for this insight. I was an ANOTHER WORLD fan for years and I loved to HATE Iris Carrington Wheeler, which is a testament to the talents Beverlee McKinsey posessed. Neither she, nor former AW co-star Victoria Wyndham, won an Emmy for their work and yet she, and they together, were dynamite, stellar actresses who could easily set the scene and take it places even the writers and producers hadn't expected.
I am sorry about Beverlee's passing. She was one of a kind I think, and I am so sorry to learn that her life ended so early. R.I.P. Ms. McKinsey.
