More stars missing in Emmy action: Jim Belushi, Tyler James Williams . . .

June 26, 2008 |  1:03 pm

When the Emmys release the top 10 lists of finalists in the acting categories tomorrow, don't be surprised when you don't see a few stars. Jim Belushi (" According to Jim") and Tyler James Willams (" Everybody Hates Chris") are among the stars who didn't enter their names for Emmy consideration.

Belushi isn't competing for best comedy actor because, his rep says, the funny man wants to be taken seriously as a director. He entered an episode of "According to Jim" that he helmed titled "The Chaperone. " But such a strategy betrays a basic ignorance of how Emmy voting works. It's done according to peer group. Actors don't vote in the directors' races and there's no way for directors to know that Belushi took his name out of competition among actors. Gold Derby tried to reach his rep at Rogers & Cowan for further comment, but she refused to respond to our last e-mail or phone message. Why? What is she afraid of? Or what is she hiding?

Below are some additional names missing from the Emmy ballot:

BEST DRAMA ACTOR
Tom Welling, " Smallville"

BEST ACTOR, MOVIE/ MINI
Peter Gallagher, "The Gathering"
David Haig, "My Boy Jack"
Tim Guinee, "Vinegar Hill"

BEST ACTRESS, MOVIE/MINI
Janet McTeer, "Sense and Sensibility"

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, MOVIE/MINI
Alfred Molina, "As You Like It"
David Oyelowo, "As You Like It"

Among the many notable absences on the list of potential guest performers: Lindsay Lohan ("Ugly Betty"), Laurie Metcalf ("Big Bang Theory") and Valerie Harper ("'Til Death").

OK, Abe. I'll take your word for it. I changed the text. But I thought Boomer said she's not on the lists and he usually knows his stuff.

Hey Tom I'm not trying to keep poking holes in your posts, I'm just reading closely - Kathryn Joosten is listed on the official Emmy ballot under Guest Actress (#975). I know she went supporting last year, but it looks like she submitted herself this year.
