Yeah, Reege also thinks he got a consolation Emmy tonight

June 20, 2008 |  8:06 pm

I hate to admit that I'm so cynical, but when I heard the news that Regis Philbin would be given a lifetime achievement award this year, it made me think that this is the only way for the academy to give him a much-deserved Emmy. The only time he won was 1999 when he tied Rosie O'Donnell. Clearly, there's a bias in these categories toward hosts of single-host shows. So I asked Reege if he felt the same way.

"Yeah I was a little skeptical when I heard that I was getting the award," he said. "I've had a cohost for 40 years and never won when I had a cohost, but the one year I was without a cohost, I won. That year I went 5 months without a cohost while we looked for a permanent replacement for Kathy Lee. The producers submitted one of those shows for the Emmy race, so I ended up winning for that."

Please clarify, I thought Regis only won one emmy -- for host of who wants to be a millionaire.
