The Emmycast may not have a host!

No final decision has been made, but Gold Derby hears that ABC is strongly considering the possibility of not having anyone host the prime-time Emmy ceremony on Sept. 21.

Often the TV network in charge of the ceremony taps one of its late-night comedians to host, so Emmy-watchers expect Jimmy Kimmel to get the job, but ABC may feel that he's not a big-enough A-list star. Or maybe it just likes the idea of not having a host.

The Golden Globes don't use a host and that show usually turns out great. In 2003, the Emmycast really didn't have one host while a variety of jokers held forth from the stage throughout the night, including Ellen DeGeneres, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, Wanda Sykes and Brad Garrett. Ditto in 1998 and 1989.

When Gold Derby asked ABC for comment, a network rep said, "Nothing's been determined yet. Will know more in the coming weeks."
