Emmy dump list: Who got snubbed

Looks like voters within the TV academy's acting branch are back showing diminished appreciation for comics as actors: Sarah Silverman ain't here (though she got the consolation prize of a nod for her guest spot on "Monk"), and neither is past nominee Larry David, whose "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is nonetheless nominated for best comedy series. (Good thing Larry has a sense of humor.)

FX network takes some serious lumps: Last year's nominees Denis Leary, Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver aren't here. How shocking that "Pushing Daisies," "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy" ain't here. Too bad "The Wire" ain't up for best drama series — we're gonna have to listen to all those TV critics bellyaching again and again.

Why have the Emmys consistently snubbed The Wire often in favor of much more mundane fare? Is this Spielberg/Color Purple all over again? Did they make the wrong people angry? Do they honestly expect us to believe it isn't worthy of a nomination and that none of its actors or directors have been worthy of nominations?

Too bad "The Wire" ain't up for best drama series — we're gonna have to listen to all those TV critics bellyaching again and again.

One of the best dramas in the history of television has been ignored by the academy for five years, and that's how you react. Yeah, it's too bad that we have to put up with these complaints from these professionals whose job it is evaluate show's artistic qualities. It's always so easy to tell who does and who doesn't watch the show.

And Silverman got nommed for "I'm F****** Matt Damon" so she should complain. Lead actress comedy is a tough category this year. I thought Felicity Huffman was in!

Note that Sarah Silverman also got a song nomination for writing "I'm F'ing Matt Damon...: another pretty good consolation prize.
