44 pix compete for the European Film Awards

The European Film Awards, which will bestowed in Copenhagen on Dec. 6, have released a list of eligible flicks, which were submitted by 27 nations. The 1,800 members of the European Film Academy will decide the nominations, which will be announced on Nov. 8 at the Sevilla European Film Festival in Spain.

Because the eligibility dates for Europe's Oscar are so different from America's equivalent, some films are left over from that last Hollywood derby ("Atonement") while newbies have been added, such as "Happy-Go-Lucky," "Waltz with Bashir" and "Gomorra." Read MORE and MORE.
